Yep. The condensor was there to reduce sparking across the point gap when they opened. Made the points last longer. I used to use a matchbook cover as a gapping tool in a pinch, worked pretty well. That was when cars got tuneups twice a year. Now it's twice in the car's entire lifetime!

1966 or so Saab 96?

Mine was a 1968 Saab 95 (the wagon) with a V4. That's a photo I found online.

Necessity truly is the mother of invention. Wait... what? You had your MGB out in a snowstorm????

Actually built a 1984 HD Softail, pulled the electronic ignition out and replaced with points and condenser. Last of the four speed with kick and electric start.

Points and condenser made it easier to kick start and ended the battle with the crappy electronic ignition.

What gets me is why they seemingly call everything 'hybrid' now, I mean a rubber tyre is rubber.

It's the bike that's hybrid. Part road, part gravel, part commuter, etc. The tires are made for anything except the most extreme conditions.

Thanks M_Six, another suitable alternative name could be an all terrain bike.

You know you're old when...you see a new Mercedes E Class and C Class parked next to each other and really can't tell the difference without looking at the badging.

When you go to work wearing a shirt given out at a conference and one of the staff points out it’s older than they are are 😀

You know you're old when you prefer driving in Eco or Comfort mode because otherwise the car accelerates faster than you need to, and the suspension is too rough in Sport mode... (confession, that is usually me...)

I'm old, but I'm not that old. Sport and Sport + all day, every day.

I'm the same way. My body might be getting older, but in my mind I'm still young

I drive in sport mode 99% of the time. The only time I might take it off sport mode is sometimes when I'm on the hwy.

I also like to hear the exhaust, so I have to have a performance exhaust on my cars, either OEM or aftermarket.
When I'm driving I like to know that the car is working, if I can't hear the exhaust I start to worry that something is wrong
Even the wife's X5 has an M performance exhaust, and I think she likes it

What about the steer weighting, it's no disgrace if you put it on max SS or Sport + even in the city
