Reminds me of a windy day a couple of years ago.
Driving down a mountain with some curves to it and a 90s accord comes flying by, zooming in and out. I said this guys going to crash. About a minute later I see him in the distance. He had gotten too close to the shoulder and the rear end went out. Front end slams into the mountain, spins and the rear end slams into the mountain and rips the bumper off. He somehow gained control and kept driving.

That reminds me of a time, back in my misspent youth, when I was driving up a twisty hillside road with a passing lane -- a road I knew quite well because it was on my daily must-get-to-drudgery commute. I pulled out to pass a car in front of me, which turned out to contain some teens. The driver decided to contest the pass, and up we went.

Did I mention it was raining? Yep. Anyway, things got interesting. We stayed side by side, accelerating. It got interestinger. Lateral traction was being severely tested. I was starting to think about backing off the throttle. Next thing I know the teens are no longer beside me! I looked in the mirror to see their car bouncing off various bits of hillside whilst swapping ends.

Their rubber bits stayed on the downward side. They basically just spun out and knocked the bejeezus out of both ends of the car.

I kept going.

You know you're old when...
...I still count that day when counting my lucky stars.

I’d say both of those drivers were pretty lucky that they didn’t hit anyone else.
The guy in the accord could have easily spun out into 80mph traffic to his left, instead of the mountain side.

Glad I don't have to on a regular basis. Practically never see snow here in SoCal.

Been to the mountains a couple times when it snowed, that's about it.

We've been really lucky - I should shut up, dad always told me don't spit up in the air. We only had 2 cold days this winter and no snow at all. Monday it was 65 degrees. Tomorrow is supposed to be somewhat cold at 25, but dry.

Glad to hear it. It's bad in a lot of places right now. Today we should get about 3" of rain. I'll probably have to pump the backyard out.

Not complaining, we need the water with the drought we're in.

Back to bed.

Wonder if any of that’s BMW hatin’. Some see a bimmer and want to try their luck. Others want to show off. My grandpa always said I should be in control of the car and not the other way around.

I used to practice my skids in a disused church car lot.

Found a track and practiced there some more. Honestly though.. as you say.. driving according to conditions is the way to go.

Some jive tires can send cars into a ditch too.

Stay safe. It’s a jungle out there.

No, BMW haters are the assholes that are 3 car lengths back but speed up the moment I do my obligatory 2 blinks to change lanes or merge. You privileged bitch and your BMW aren’t getting ahead of me nonsense.

I love the people with AWD or 4WD in the snow that don’t understand just because you can go, doesn’t mean you can stop. I laugh when they’re in the ditch. Does that make me a bad person?

Human I’d say. Often people have to pretend we’re bad so they don’t feel guilty about the things they do.
Agreed. Some people think A/4WD means the car is infallible. Even a RWD with winter tires is safer if driven carefully.
Well that’s why we’re in this thread. With age comes less and less of giving a fk or being bothered by dicks on the road.

What can I say. Young at heart.
You can add some westerns and some black and white movies such as ‘It’s a wonderful life.’

Always liked Jack Klugman. Loved the TV series "The Odd Couple" as well.

He was in some very good "Twilight Zone" episodes too.

Perry Mason episodes from the late 50s and early 60s come to mind here. I like the series' black and white presentation, its particular formulaic style, and, especially, the casting, including the guest stars.

I'd like it if I could find The Lineup – which I recall airing as San Francisco Beat back in the day – but I've never found it. However, The Streets of San Francisco is a worthy substitute. Nash Bridges, not so much, although I did (and still do occasionally) find the series entertaining.
