The mini-cat armored vehicles did all of that. They are basically armored tractors with a long rotating saw-type device on the front.

I don't suppose that mini cat would fit through a double set of front doors? Just drive it right in to the house and take it for a spin to see what the suspect is up to? Maybe saw him in half while you're at it? Oh wait, optics...yeah, don't do the last bit.

The Taco Bell the suspect ate the night before, coupled with a 24h standoff that presumably did not allow him time for a proper bathroom break.

How do you know if barricaded subject is in the bathroom? Would that be an opportune time to breach the front door?

I used to work with a guy who'd been on the ETF (SWAT), he'd gone out for Indian food and the next day his team was doing a dynamic warrant for guns and drugs....midway through the raid he had an urgent matter to tend to so he had the gun team barricade the washroom door while he answered the call.

How often do you guys ticket jack-wagons that park illegally in handicapped spots? Often, I hope.

I'd lay a tag whenever I saw one, but searching parking lots for that isn't really high on the priority list. I know most places have Parking Enforcement who deal with those. But in Toronto it was about volume of tags on rush hour routes to keep traffic moving.

I'm a bit sensitive to that violation as my father-in-law needed a spot, as does my sister-in-law now. I wish I could ticket them!

You can, you just can't enforce it.

Or you could become a cop and help shore up the depleting force and then you could hunt to your content.

Can't... I'm too old and couldn't pass the physical due to a CABG 5 years ago.

I haven't personally written a single handicap parking ticket in my entire career, but I have partners who love to write them.

It's 30 minutes before shift change, all your reports are written, and a call comes in. Who gets it? Especially if you just worked graveyard.

Depends on the call. If low priority dispatchers will usually park it for the dayshift. If higher priority it get's responded to and the station will usually get someone out on the road to relieve you if necessary. But a lot depends on the call and circumstances.

We have 4 hours of overlap at the end of my shift; the shift before me has 2 hours of overlap at the end of their shift (…I start at 1400 hours and their shift ends at 1600 hours; they stop receiving calls as soon as we are logged on). My regular shift ends at midnight, but the early-morning/graveyard shift starts at 2000 hours (…at the very latest they are logged in by 2100 hours). I wouldn’t ever get a call even close to the end of shift (…barring something really crazy occurring). I definitely don’t get a call after 2200 hours.

This as well! Dispatchers will hold any routine call for the next shift, but priority or emergent calls will be dispatched. It’s how I handle calls when I dispatch as well.

I hope you mean "narrowly" missed, nearly missed is a whole 'nother situation. Gulp.

Both mean more or less the same thing to me. The round impacted less than a foot from his head. He still is having hearing issues in his right ear.

Kind of like "near miss?" They almost missed, but they didn't. I always chuckled at that verbiage. Should be "near hit," and I've seen way too many.
