SV's failure reminds me of Hungary '08 when FM's car died right in front of the pit wall with only 3 laps to go and while having an enormous lead, though Massa's was more heartbreaking by a mile. Anyway......

Great Race.

Absolutely will take that 2nd place for Hamilton. Seems like he was fighting the tires the entire race. Button definitely so.

Glad to see the 2 RBR in DNF. Keeps it all interesting and making Mark push for the title at the end I'm sure will result in some interesting developments. Particularly, if it ends up being Mark pushing against Vettel or Alonso. If Hamilton can position himself just so during the inevitable skirmish, he could slip by into a great position.

Now we know why McLaren was against RB to go with the Merc engine contract.

Pretty much everybody used up their allowed engines, no? Can't remember who was the exception. What I don't understand is how you can 'baby' an engine if you have to run them flat out in order to win. Or does 100 or 200 rpm make a dramatic difference? But maybe there's some truth to Renault engines; SV has had more mechanical DNFs than everybody else this season, although not all of them were engine related. It's better to be penalized 5 grid positions than DNFing due to a blown engine, right?

Hey, does anybody know what oil those engines use? Just curious, as well as what the hell could have caused SV's engine to literally blow up, throwing pistons, rings, and all kinds of engine parts on the track. Is it oil breakdown? With so many sensors, you'd think engineering would detect tell tale signs of impending failure, no?

They use a highly special synthetic (it is definitely not some OTC stuff or anything like that!). They usually have specialists that travel with the team (eg Shell with Ferrari) that monitor the quality of the oil and lubricants being put into the car. So oil breakdown doesn't sound terribly likely.

I actually got a pit pass several years ago into the BMW pits back when it was BMW williams, and one of the things we got to see was the Castrol guys and their mini 'laboratory' where they tested the synthetics right in pit lane. It's pretty carefully monitored stuff!

F1 blow-ups (at least in the old days) are pretty spectacular and rapid - don't forget that the engine is chugging at near 18,000 rpm, so if anything goes slightly wrong, it's going to get exponentially worse very, very quickly.

It actually reminded me of Japan '06, when Schumacher's engine went kaboom and lost him the championship. That was absolutely gut-wrenching for a Schumacher fan.

I'm a Ferrari fan, but it was still pretty sad to see SV go out like that. After all the negative publicity he's had this season, he has actually turned things around in the last couple races, and put in some very solid performances (esp. compared to Webber). This may not be his season, but he's definitely a talent to reckon with.

Was anyone else surprised with the Mclarens struggling in the rain? I always thought of Hamilton and Button being good in the rain.

One final thing I forgot to mention - huge kudos to Hamilton. Yes, I said it. He was the ONLY one with the balls to say 'let's go racing' even while the other drivers wanted the race to be red-flagged. I have huge respect for someone like that, and frankly lost a lot of respect for Mark "let's wait awhile" Webber

Just played F1 2010 game in Korean GP, and found out the pit exit is totally different from the race just commenced yesterday.
Yesterday in real life, the pit exit just feed into the outside of Turn 1. But in the game, it went around the Turn 1 run-off, all the way to the exit of Turn 2.

I wonder the current pit exit used yesterday was just temporary? The permanent pit exit wasn't build in time?
Or just Codemaster programmed the game based on the layout given by the Korean International Circuit? and will give a patch in the future?

I think more races should have rain. It keeps the drama up all the way to the end.
Someone should arrange that.

It seemed they were just having major tire issues with that track in the rain. Maybe if it was Rain alone they would have been better but the extra oils and resin residing on the surface that screwed their entire balance up?

Hamilton radio'd about tire degradation something like 2 laps after pitting.

Both Hamilton and Button have trouble to put heat into the tires, button was struggle with it during qualifying, Hamilton just enough to put some competitive lap time on Saturday.

Sunday Button was just miserable, and Hamilton was struggling with tires too, I remember he said on the radio something like "Front Max Aero, and the car still understeer". Hamilton had to work hard to get on the podium.

I'm EXTREMELY disappointed that SV has now been denied a nearly certain win for a THIRD TIME this season by something mechanical and completely out of his control. It's enraging enough to watch so I can't imagine how he must be feeling right now.

Makes sense. Don't know of anything better than a group V synthetic, but with special additives. Curious about the grade used, but we'll probably never know .

It was something else, evidenced by him finishing the race tens of laps later. Plus everybody was on the same tires . Probably just trying to hide the fact he's a puss in the rain .

He handled the issue WAY better than I imagined. He was smiling when he was greeted by a RB guy. He didn't show any anger. Amazing, especially at his age. He's matured tremendously in just one season. He might not win the championship, and he might not be liked by many, but I have no doubt after this race he's the best F1 driver.

He handled this the exact same way he handled the first two incidents in the opening races so I don't see how he has matured at all - or that he needed to in the first place. I really don't understand why people doubt his "maturity." It's just a silly statement. I also don't understand why anyone would flat out not like him. He's a happy and very well spoken young man but it seems like many mistake his smiling for arrogance. Should he frown at the crowd after winning a race? To me he seems nearly impossible to dislike even slightly...
