This guy is trying to sell his Colorado "M3" license plate for $1000

https://www.bmwcca.org/ads/231361

Thought it was only other countries vying for coveted number and custom plates. BMWCCA classifieds ad for ownership of Colorado "M3" vanity plates at $1000 - genius or ?

short answer =

Especially for such an original plate

Pretty sure i've seen people in the UK sell their plates a lot. Maybe it's a thing.

I don't think I'd pay $1000, but I'd probably pay $500, TBH. Not crazy. He's just weeding out lowballers. lol

Will the 'M3' plate be the only one in the whole country?

If so I can see it demanding a high price, like it does here in the UK.

In the USA plates are done by state, so there are potentially fifty "M3" plates on cars.

Common practice outside the USA, first instance I had seen here.

Technically, more than 50.

US territories also have their own plates.

I know just to get a personal plate from the Ministry of Transportation here is about $300. Which is about $8 USD, so who knows.

It's a shame really, I think a unique number plate market will do very well in the US.

One of the most satisfying things I've seen is a cheap car wearing a 5-6 figure number plate. So cool.

"BLING" would go for an absurd amount of money, I'd imagine.

There was an auction this year by the state for a few of the "coveted" plates that had not been previously released, so it is very possible that the owner won this plate there and is now trying to make some money back on it.

My M3 already has a badge on the trunk stating the model designation. Why would i need my license plate to say that too?

Some silly prices in the UK for 'personalised' plates.

Quote:
Back in 2014 the plate 25 O was sold to a Ferrari dealer for £400,000, with the buyer paying upwards of £500,000 after fees and VAT.

I inadvertently gave this classified free advertising! Wondering where it will find a home, perhaps a particularly humorous AMG owner

Not sure if you knew this, but even if you wanted to replace your peeling plate and keep the number you have to personalize it. Otherwise you will get a new plate with a new number.

Regardless still $300CAD (8USD)

I live in CO and the extra $60 to get a personalized plate from the DMV puts it right on the edge of worthwhile. Can't fathom spending $1k on this.

Eh...$1000 is nothing in the M3/M4 world from what I can tell.

Guys (and girls) on here spending $10k + for a set of rims or $2k+ for aesthetic carbon parts that anyone else can buy.

Look at that shit eating grin.. I'd rather not have a memorable plate for weirdos to report or track me, and instead, buy a tune, dp, or some nice CF pieces.

Why in the hell would someone pay 400K for a license plate that says 25 O

That makes literally zero sense
