iPhone with iOS 6 or BMW navigation
How many will take a pass on BMW's 2K plus navigation and opt for an iPhone running Apple's iOS 6 map app?
For more info go to: http://www.apple.com/ios/ios6/maps/ Highest Regards. |

It all boils down to personal preference? I used portable Garmin unit all this while, and I long for the day that I have a factory OEM all in one, and finally got it in my F30. I like the clean look and no dangling cables to mess with, but I'm annoyed whenever the lady interfere with my music, so voice guidance is permanently off - never have this problem with standalone unit, I get both

Regarding routing issues my current BMW nav has been at times less than steller. With that being said, I'm open to other opinions Highest Regards |

I'm running the developer beta of iOS 6 and I must say I'm really impressed with the turn-by-turn navigation. That, plus Siri improvements (and the promise that BMW and others will support Siri) makes the iPhone a pretty compelling alternative to iDrive navigation.
For me, it's all about integration. If I could cleanly mount an iPhone or iPad into my dash, I'd be all about it. In reality, using a 3rd party device is usually a mess of cables, mounts, etc.. I always opt for factory/integrated hardware because I'm uptight about that stuff. _________________ Ordered (May 2012): 2012 Black Sapphire Metallic F30 328i Sport Line (expected June 23) Last edited by jacobm; 06-14-2012 at 11:45 AM.. Nave comes with other stuff...so I'll keep my factory Nav.
As mentioned earlier in thread, it's clean, no wires, etc.... Last edited by Mrcarcrazy; 06-14-2012 at 02:04 PM.. |

If you looking at BMW Nav as just navigation then you are looking at it all wrong. Its all about what else comes with it. Do some research as BMW does not lay stuff out in simple black and white. Package might say Nav & HUD but the list of features is about 10x longer than that.

You guys shouldn't mix up map data and the navigation application. While both systems use the same map data (provided by TomTom owned Teleatlas), the rest is completely different. The presentation of the maps, the way routes are calculated, all this sits on top of the raw map data. So even if both have the same raw data, you can't compare them at all.
