Make Eduardo Freitas Formula 1's Race Director
He's well respected and has 20 yrs. of no nonsense experience firmly and fairly controlling WEC races. Sign the petition to have him named the new Formula 1 race director.

"After an unprecedented season of inconsistent and extremely questionable stewards’ decisions, culminating in the farcical end to the 2021 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, we are petitioning the organisers of Formula 1 to replace the current race director with well respected and experienced Eduardo Freitas from the WEC.
Freitas has over 20 years of high level race director experience and is regarded around the world as a voice of consistency and authority. It is vital that viewer & fan confidence is restored in the policing of F1 races which has been eroded throughout the 2021 season." |

Yes, Masi has shown on more than one occasion to be neither fair or firm. It's been suggested that under the race pressure he folded and it was a root cause for his mistakes.
Now here's Eduardo Freitas...he handles way more cars than the 20 fielded in a F1 race...plus a WEC race is a minimum 6 hrs. rather than a F1's 2 hrs. (or less). He's more than up to the task that a F1 race presents. |

Oh for sure right from the beginning of the season his decisions appeared to favour Merc a lot of the time even right down to the beginning of the last race, then when it all appeared that HAM was cruising to an 8th title a Merc engined car crashed and things happened extraordinarily to ''redress the balance''. This is something that happened at a time when rules, whatever they were at the time could not fit the prerogative.

A race director's control actions during a race should not favor a driver or a team. Seems pretty simple to most...unless one heralds the sleazy and unprincipled.

Part of the problem...paraphrasing Pat Symonds from years ago... It is very easy to forget why rules are put there. Some of us old boys have been sitting in these meetings for 40 years and we do remember – and Charlie Whiting remembers. And I tell you, the day when Charlie does go, it is going to be quite difficult because other people won't remember why the rules are there.
A Charlie Whiting urban legend when replying to a team principal...or anyone in the paddock overstepping their role: "Article 0.0.0 of the F1 Technical Regulations states 'Thou Shall Not take the Piss' ... We need another Charlie...Michael has shown he's not the one. |

Charlie used common sense under controlled conditions when there was time in hand, agreed.
Under these circumstances I believe he would have followed similar steps to Mikey in avoiding the race to fall into oblivion. |

I don’t think he needs to leave F1 though, he seems good on track safety before the weekend starts and to check future circuits etc. so he has a place just not as RD. |

You're being thick. What F1 needs is an even, firm hand at race control. Of course Charlie passed away and is out of the picture. Managing a race has nothing to do with any one individual driver (or karma)...it does have a lot to do with consistency and fairness. Two qualities that Masi lacks (among others). You have said some incredibly strange things in this thread and the F1 Meme thread.

^ 30 years? then I'd guess he's due for retirement, too long in the job I'd say stick with Masi with an advisor that has to agree before he implements rulings after introducing some more codes of practices. It's time for change taking in fan enjoyment as a priority as demonstrated by Masi when Latifi crashed.
Carry on. |

It escapes reason why any support goes to Masi with his "fingers on the scale" approach to race management. Even Brundle has a hard time verbally shading the problem: "Resurfaced Masi audio "uncomfortable" for F1". The Masi way of effectively reducing F1 outcomes to theater should be stopped.

The excerpt of Red Bull's Jonathan Wheatley conversation with Masi is telling. Red Bull gave the order, Masi then followed the instructions....
“Clearly it is not necessary for these lapped cars to go after the group again“, Observes Jonathan Wheatley (Red Bull sporting director). “I understand”, replies Michael Masi (F1 Race Director). It’s still: “Now you need to let them double“,”Got it, give me a second“. And finally: “Only in this way will we have a real race in our hands”“I got it“. |
