Food Shortage 2021

Anyone keeping up with this?
We don't watch TV here, got family members/in-laws calling me on this damn faceything/ whatever this annoying thing on my phone is with them calling and staring at me while the phone is ringing.. turn..it..off. Howwww?.

asking if we still have land to grow food on..cause we are going to need it..
"HAVEN'T YOU SEEN THE NEWS?"…with a pre-panic, run to the grocery store and hoard undertone in their voices.

Totally oblivious, I say, no.. what's going on?

THERE IS A FOOD SHORTAGE! Have you need to the store lately? Certain items are not on the shelves..

My husband takes the phone, walks over to our cupboards turns the phone and shows our pantry, slammed with dry goods, pasta, home canned goods. He yells, NOPE, WE'RE GOOD.

They quickly get off the phone and we go on YouTube to watch the news..

So is there really really a food shortage or are people just going soft here?

I hate the news, so don’t really watch either. Without knowing much about the situation I’m gonna guess it’s the same situation as with toilet paper. People suck.

The news media is toxic. Even if there is a slight shortage, they will make it 100x worse so there is an actual impact. Just like the fuel shortage that happened when the pipelines got hacked. What could've been manageable turned into people panic buying so much fuel that many more stations were closed than what would've been originally. I won't comment on a shortage, since I don't actually know, but it's hard to take news as 100% fact when their profits are based on clicks and ad revenue.

Though I did see something about California possibly not having access to any more bacon in the near future. Add one more shitty thing to the list if that does happen.

It's a bit more complicated than that and no it's not like the toilet paper issue during the COVID peak but slowly but surely there have been food shortages. As a result we're paying more money due to this. Some of it is climate change related, some of it is the pandemic. A bunch of stuff. Google is your friend.

Gotcha. Thank you. I’ll do more research into this situation.

Yup there is a lot involved. From what I've read a lot of it is supply chain and weather related. Hard to ship stuff when nobody wants to drive a truck, and I know of a few farmers who have had weather impact crops. The weather thing is nothing new, but the lack of truckers is.

No problem. To be clear, I'm not trying to be a smart ass or anything but it really is a complicated and multi-faceted issue it seems. I don't fully understand everything myself but these are just a few things I had heard. I think it has been slowly brewing as well. Many of us have probably seen stuff in the news (like it or not ) about certain crops getting wiped out due to either high heat or torrential rains, etc. Seems to be getting worse. Supply chains are really running ragged on a lot of stuff which is creating problems for markets and restaurants, etc. End result? Sky rocketing prices for consumers.

Didn’t take it as you being a smart ass at all. If there’s something I don’t understand, especially of this importance, I’m always willing to hear or read more about it.

The local bars had to temporarily stop serving wings, but I went to BJ's(like a costco) Sunday and they had tons of wings and every other kind a meat you would want so who knows?

The only food product we have had trouble finding in 2021 is a small bottle of Heinz white vinegar, so we bought another brand. Grocery stores sometimes aren't stocked up on specific items when we go and there are occasional temporary supply chain issues with select foods but neither of those conditions are new or specific to 2021. There is not a "food shortage." No one with the means to buy groceries is going hungry.

Costco probably has one of the best supply chain systems in the country.

Chicken wing prices are way up here, so much so that I sometimes don't give Onslow his raw wing in the morning....

I didnt check prices on the wings but 2 racks of ribs were almost $30 bucks so we went with chicken breasts.

I love this guy!
Can we post Air rifles on here? I got a Benjamin single load break action .22 cal that can go through a raccoon and probably down a deer if I get a head or lung shot. I had a poor choice of a backstop… let's just say that I got a love tap on my cheek. Didn't hurt or leave a mark, but looking down my shirt, there it was, lead pellet fragment.

Right now, I pull up into the yard with 2 gobblers and hens off in the back acre, it's out of season here…………….but, ya know…. If things get rough, we'll. Guess I was being a-tacked by a flock

Yep because they contain wheat which is running low compared to years past. Bread products in general have gone up.
