These poor people did not have new E90's to jump into and leave when they got the warnings. Many of these people live very different and lack the education many of us share on this forum. THIS IS WORSE THEN 9/11! We had a two day warning yet nothing was done to help these poor mostly black people. Is this America? WTF! I am so disappointed in our country!

I don't want to get into politics, but George W. Bush
is not a very good president when under extreme circumstance. Just look at how he handled 9/11......and now....he'll just sit back in his Mansion..... watch his people starve and loot New Orleans like primitive neanderthals - survival of the fittest........cause not much is being done. I bet France is probably laughing at us.......

I agree Scott & natureboy..
They had a 2 day warning to evacuate the entire city, and where was the president?? on VACATION in Texas. Wow, what an easy job... work for about 2 months and spend the rest of it on vacation. Why didnt they send buses/trains anything they could to evacuate the poor.. i mean did the govt assume everyone in new orleans had a car or enough funds to just get up and go?? Hmm.. now they act so surprised that there are thousands left stranded. I understand FEMA is doing as much as they can, but how could it take 4-5 days to finally get food to people?! What a disappointing situation, and its just another reason for the world to laugh at us. Damn Ohio!...

You know, i never could understand why Bush was elected for a second term. He doesnt seem very proffesional about his job, or anything!! He says it;s not acceptable, so what dude. DO SOMETHING.
When I was in the Great Hanshin Earthquake in Japan that claimed 6000 lives, the prime minsiter in time, said no thanks we dont need outside help. the guy after watching video clips of the needy, and injured and dead, resigned his post in shame. I remember it was a day thta the Japanese people were in total fury with the government who refused all outside help when in fact, we needed all the help we could get. (sorry if it's a bit off topic)

I did NOT vote for Bush, but you have to look at the situation a little differently than Bandah Ache (spelling?, Tsunami relief)
1) The water receded on it's own for the most part there. 2) Those needing help weren't CAPPING ROUNDS AT THE RESCUERS!! IF I were there as a rescuer, local or not, I sure wouldn't be very inclined to help any longer once someone capped a round in my direction. Fine, you don't want me here, I'm leaving and going home to my family. I'd have the same response if I were sent to Iraq . . . I also heard a theory about rescue once looting begins. The first items looted are typically alcohol and guns. So you give them three days to drink it all and get hung over, while shooting each other and everything in sight, THEN it's safe to go in and help. And yes, I understand its a minority that is being totally stupid, that millions are suffering. But the first thing they always teach in any type of rescue effort I've trained for is "Don't become another victim needing help" So I don't go into water I can't get out of, don't enter a building that is teetering on the brink of falling, and don't go where someone capps a round in my direction. |

-Good article by the BBC. Good points Wede. I sure as hell wouldnt want to risk my life in order to help someone who is shooting at me. But i guess its survival mode now.. anything goes.

look i know rescuers of natural disasters were not trained to deal with mobs but what gets to me are the group of cops and law officials that turned in their badges and what not. That means they give up-not why people decided to be cops right? To protect, to serve?

So how much have YOU donated to the releif effort? Here's a challenge: give a bunch of money to Red Cross or whomever you are comfortabvle with, then post back how much better you feel about the situation, and let's not dwell on our (ID10T) president's reactions.
I just gave $100. I feel a lot better. Depending on how high gas goes, I'll send more next week. |

So we should just throw up our hands? I'll help directly now with donations, and come the next election I'll help with my vote.
That's the typical buck passing that all these other nations are seeing as "The American Way" That is NOT the American way my son will learn, or the way I will lead my life. MAYBE, just maybe the East is right . . . |

A little girl is seen on the beach, tossing starfish that were left on the sand by ebbing tides, back into the water. An old man walked up to her and said "You'll never be able to make a difference to all these starfish, there are way too many."
"Tell that to the one I just put back in the water, and every one YOU toss back yourself" |
