How many alcoholic beverages do you consume per week?

I thought this might be interesting...if we are being honest to get an idea of how many drinks a week we have in comparison to others. This is on average over a full week, but includes any nights you binge drink if you do so.

I know we used to have a beer or potentially two with dinner every night for about a year until we realized how much that was costing us. Now we normally say weekends are free to drink what you want, but we try not to have anything during the week.

But still, I feel like I make up for it because I'll typically have 3-4 drinks a day on the weekend over the course of the day (sometimes more if we are doing something special) and I'm starting to wonder if that's a bit much. So thought I'd compare against what others typically consume - so please be honest!

I cut out alcohol for an entire month a while ago but honestly didn't notice anything different.

Yes, you are right, it is a bit too much. One or two drinks per day at the most is what medical professionals are recommending currently for men. For women it is ONE drink per day. You are doing the right thing by questioning your consumption. Oh, also, you can save quite a bit of money cutting back. A bonus.

Sometimes, I go weeks without drinking anything. I'm not really a beer guy. If I'm drinking, it's normally a weekend & it's vodka and/or wine.

Usually I have a couple beers or glasses of wine on Friday night. The a few more on Saturday/Sunday each. This summer was a little different though as it seemed we did a lot more traveling/outdoor get togethers so it got to be a bit more than usual. Every year I stop drinking for a couple of months just to make sure I can and usually to get rid of the gut I develop over the summer from too much fun.

Now coffee is another story and I don’t think I can do without.

I have two beers on Sunday night, three if the week was really shitty. On an occasion I do that also one one week night but that's usually our monthly poker night.

Wine or whiskey is a once a year situation for me and going out happens seldom because I don't like people much. Especially now Mondays are my shopping days which means I get to sleep in till seven am so me and my trusted beer drinking chair have a date on Sundays often.

Right now, I average somewhere around 12, all on the weekend. I know it is too much but I have been going out a lot lately.

12 what, though?

For my vodka, it's mixed drinks, but I normally put 3 or so shots in per drink. I have built my tolerance.

I've been off beer the last year or so (except for Octoberfest).

I enjoy a happy-to-be-home drink (usually winking owl chard) 2 or 3 times a week, and usually 2 drinks on friday night and saturday night.

I rarely drink to begin with, and hardly ever get drunk. I get enough migraines, I don't need to feel shitty for other reasons.

Anybody that is claiming a home made mixed drink as one is under reporting by a factor or 2 or possibly 3.

I clicked the 16+ which isn't true of the last couple of weeks, but my average is up there for too long now.

The trouble is I turned beer or vodka and soda into a end of the day reward/punctuation. Get the kids to bed by about 7:30 then crack a beer, then have about a drink per hour until bed at 10:30 or 11:00. I'm not drunk, but the calories really start to add up. I also think it reduces the quality of sleep.

The other thing is that my neighborhood is super social and I can hardly walk the dog without someone handing me a beer.

For the past couple of weeks I have been changing my 'reward' system to myself. I have started walking the dog later (after putting the kids to bed) and doing an exercise video for 1/2 hour to an hour (its too late to go to the gym at this point).

I am not 'over' my lack of down time yet, but I am definitely sleeping better. I really don't 'miss' booze when I don't drink, but I do like it when I do.

If I was answering for the last 2 weeks, I would be in the 6 or 7 neighborhood.

Agreed especially with the bolded. Often times when I'm pouring a scotch at home, its definitely the equivalent of at least two, possibly three if I were out when I think about it. But I made the mistake of counting that as one just like you said. So I'm higher than I thought. Though usually I'm only having one, maybe two of these Scotches per day, the rest is beer or average glass of wine.

And I too don't miss booze - when I cut it out for a month I didn't miss it at all, but I did have to remind myself from time to time that I wasn't drinking just because it was almost like second nature. But once I remembered, it was of no consequence, I can honestly not remember any moment where I wanted a drink or craved it. Just wound up pouring a glass of water instead.

That being said, I don't think I have an addictive personality, whereas I think some people are predisposed to an addictive personality. Not to say I don't have other flaws, I certainly do...but I do think some people are more easily addicted to things then others. I suspect that's genetic, but not sure.

I had a similar experience where alcohol was reducing my quality of sleep. I only drank two glasses of wine a night and never anymore. My wife suggested I stop for awhile and see if my sleep improves. Well it definitely did and I woke up feeling much better every morning. I took her challenge a bit further and haven't had any alcohol for eight years now, I really don't miss it at all.

I did 16+ as well, but majority of that is beers. 16+ beers a week now that football is on is far from hard to do. Maybe 3-4 beers thursday night football, go out Friday night usually thats atleast 6, usually drink during the day or go out Saturday/Saturday night again atleast 6 I would say. Sunday rolls around and more football all day, but I could have 3-4 beers without a problem throughout the day just hanging out. Not to mention the yard work throughout the week usually followed by a beer or two.

All that said I am young, spend around an hour an a half 5 days a week at the gym, in good shape, and don't see a drastic affect on my health at all. Some weeks I could be above 16, and other weeks I could be down to zero. I travel for work so it just depends on the week and what plans I have.

16 miller lites is only around 1600 calories a week. Thats ~230 extra calories a day, I could care less about that amount. Hell people go out to eat and could get that amount in one sitting.

As far as the price goes I would say 8 of the beers I drink at home so ~$1 per beer. The other 8 I'll probably drink out ~$3 per beer. I can manage an extra $30 per week.

Drinking makes me feel like shit, so I rarely do it. Maybe once a month if even that. And it's usually just scotch or whiskey on the rocks or something simple. Definitely no more of that mixed sugar crap nowadays and beer is just as unhealthy.

I can't even vote because I drink way less than the minimum vote.

Where's the Trump "Never ever had any alcohol" vote? That's just sooo damn boring, right? What a life.

Vaping on the other hand happens all day every day and makes me feel GREAT.

I voted for a week when I'm NOT on call. I haven't been for all of September but start again in about a week.

Me-beer just don't get along any more. The gas comes fast and furious.

Now, I can slam Jack/diet all day long. Makes whatever I'm BBQing a lot better too. When we go out to dinner on weekends, if I have a DD, I'm in 3 deep before we finish.

Since I'm diabetic, Dr. told me to stick with the hard stuff, neat. So I have skinny or diabetic Cadillac margaritas (diabetic is tequila and Grand Marnier in a glass with salt on the rim)

I went with some co-workers a while ago to a conference. The host was issueing drink tickets for each night. They were amazed when I put away 6 Jack/diet and was still fully functional in discussing the merits of new software choices.
