How to take prom pictures?
I've been asked to take some pre-prom pix for someone I know so I'm here asking for tips/pointers. I usually take pix of pretty much everything but people. I could take pix of people but I'm by no mean an expert.
My equipment: Canon 5D w/24-70mm, 70-200mm, 50mm, EX 430II. Obviously I'm only gonna be using the 24-70mm. Any help is greatly appreciated. |

not sure what equipment you have, but here is what I'd do.
make a list of what and who you want to capture. i.e. - how you (or your subject) prepares before the prom (cosmetic, home, family, fds, etc) - the limo that takes you (or your subject to the prom) - the entrance/signs that says this is the prom site, night, etc - the DRESS of the prom - friends of your subject, crazy moment, what nots - the dance, the kiss, the moment. - the drinks, the food, the atmosphere There are lots more I am sure, but I'd just make a list of what you want to take first and then bring that with you and check them off 1 by 1. is that 50 f1.4? 70-200 f2.8? you probably use that a lot as well, since at FF, 70-200 is GREAT for portrait and close shot of whats happening (dancing, close shot of the action, what nots). you need 2 bodies at least i'd think. one if for 24-70 and 1 for 70-200
