Seriously. How many times are you going to stop in the middle of a road or at a red light, press some buttons, floor the gas while completely stopped and launch like you have somewhere to be yesterday?

I used my launch control in my S4 DSG once in 3 years. The day that I sold it for my manual M3, and it was only because I realized that I had never experienced it for myself, so better late than never.

People don't drive like that. I could see it as a 1/4 mile track feature but how many people are really buying it for the 1/4 mile?

The case for a good automatic vs a manual is there, but launch control is so far down the list of reasons when you look at the whole picture of owning a street car and what you're using it for.

Agree, the obsession with horsepower and 0-60 numbers is one of the reasons that newer cars are getting worse and worse and more numb/less engaging than before.

It's what most of the US has, because most people live in the cities with straight roads. Straight line performance is accessible for a lot more people and they seek it out.

Worst, the lawyers force use of Nannies that you have to defeat so if you launch the car into a nursing home, the Manufacturer doesn't get sued. Lol.

I'll take a light-weight, nicely balanced 200 - 250 HP car that I can drive 300,000 miles with not much trouble over a 700 HP launch machine.

A couple things here. Owner of the 992 is on Rennlist and said tires were crap. They are going to retest in the same totes the C8 was which are the Michelin 4S. They’re much better.
The C8 not only was tested on a different day and on much better tires, but chevy also did a “track” alignment.

Here is the only true head to head of the 992S and C8 so far.

Untrue, R&T ran both cars together on a track aswell and the C8 recorded a quicker lap time. The Track alignment is not a special modification, the car comes with 2 official camber settings; street setting is the one its on from factory. If it were on road alignment for Sport Auto's Test that's not a fair comparison either.

Then in all fairness, the 992 should be able to get proper track alignment too otherwise it’s always unfair. We will have to see how more laps turn out. The C8 should be faster given it’s got better power and torque to weight but think the 992 still has a lot more poise and precision around a circuit and ultimately carries more speed and produces faster times.
I know SportAuto did their super test on the 992, and hopefully they get their hands on a C8 too.

The 992 makes just as much torque as the C8 and is 200 pounds lighter. Its not about poise and precision. The 992 is just faster everywhere past 60mph than the C8. Their cornering speeds are probably close to identical. Look at the difference in speed on the straight in that video.

Life is too short to own the same vehicle for 300k miles. But your car does exist, used, for cheap.

Take '16-18 Miata, add Edelbrock Supercharger or BBR turbo, wheels/tires/suspension............enjoy.

Of course if you wanted to track it you'd need to add brakes and cooling for engine/trans/diff, but that's a different story.

Right. But I have 3 other BMWs to drive and a truck and motorscooter.

LOL

If you can money-shift it, it's a manual transmission. "Yeah, but NO ONE puts an automatic trans shift knob on a manual transmission."

Saw my first one in the wild today. Bright Silver.
It looks much smaller in person. Looks good though.

I’m purposely staying away. It seems first year problems are way worse than usual. Brake issue, seat belt issue, frunk issue, panel misalignments, engine valve spring problem, paint coming off, engine failure within a few hundred miles, and there’s more. Right now there’s a stop sale, so no new deliveries until they fix the next issue. I wouldn’t want to pay $80k to have my car sit at the dealership service bay.

C8 Corvette Factory Shuts Down For At Least One Week Due To Parts Shortage

Quote:
General Motors has shut the Corvette Assembly Plant at Bowling Green for at least one week due to a parts shortage.

Chevrolet started a second shift for the Corvette on August 31st, and while that was good news for those eagerly awaiting delivery of their mid-engined sports car, some suppliers haven’t been able to keep up.

It remains unclear which exact parts Chevrolet is having difficulty sourcing, but Corvette Blogger says the only alternative to the factory shutdown would have been for Chevrolet to remove the affected parts from C8 Corvette orders, as it had to do earlier in the year with the optional 5VM Aero Kits and the High Wing rear spoiler. Apparently, Chevrolet wasn’t willing to do this.

“Due to a temporary parts supply issue, we can confirm that Bowling Green Assembly will not run production the week of October 12,” Chevrolet spokesman Kevin Kelly confirmed in a statement. “Our supply chain, manufacturing and engineering teams are working closely with our supply base to mitigate any further impact on production, and we expect the plant to resume normal operations on Monday, October 19.”

Those with an order for a 2020 model year Corvette needn’t worry as they will still get their cars despite the delay. In fact, GM recently notified Chevrolet dealerships that production of the 2020 Corvette will be extended through December. Production of the 2020MY was scheduled to end in November to make way for the 2021MY, but that will no longer be the case, Corvette Action Center reports.

It is understood that a total of 20,181 Corvettes will be produced for the 2020 model year.

Anyone following the C8R racing teams? They seem to be doing quite well, but maybe the articles I'm seeing are cherry-picked.
