Immediately had to look at E46 M3s and Z8s to bleach my eyes.

Might have been stated previously and I missed it . . .

Is the G87 M2/M2C still going to be manufactured in Germany?

Does not matter to me one way or another. Just curious.

So far all information has been pointed to G87 M2 being manufactured in Mexico. Its not confirmed though, but very likely.

All new US-bound G87 M2s (and G20s) will be assembled in Mexico.

This is so BMW can take advantage of Mexico's lax trade agreement (NAFTA) with the US (since it's technically a Mexican-made product) and streamline deliveries times and cost, to the North American market.

There were several threads on subject but that's basically the headlines...

What the hell is going on in BMW's design department? Who approves this crap? The cut-outs for the headlights, that goofy wedgy line coming up from the lower opening. Rear lights are horrendous- kind of like the new gen 5er. The tall backend. wtf? Each new model being introduced ends up being a huge disappointment. In a few years they'll wreck the entire line-up.

The new gen Audi A3/S3 looks lightyears better than this 2er. Sad days at BMW.

Aside from core models like 3, 5 and X5, BMW always had design issues, and the almost always fixed it with the face lift.
Let's hope first it will be great to drive and the M235i coupe will keep it's 3l engine.

I cannot argue with anyone who states BMW has lost its way . . . the icing on the cake is totally fucking their M3/4 icons. Aesthetics aside, which suck-ass, just a convenient excuse to blame two-tons of vehicle on safety standards, emission laws, etc. BMW engineers should have spent more time on making smaller cars with signature design instead of bigger engines to move the small tanks that look like shit.

NOW, that said, the M2/M2C is the 'last model standing' as far a my interest in BMW goes. I very specifically stated M2/M2C because I would never own any other version of the 2-series, which is what we are looking at here.

I am confident BMW will beef this bad boy up for the M2/M2C and it will be fantastic. . . poor choice of words because I am encouraging them to add more weight, but you know what I mean.

BMW should be spending whatever it takes to hire competent Design leadership.

This has worked for others.

Adrian van Hooydonk and Domagoj Dukec are not serving BMW's best interests.

Cool

Just a semi ride across the border for delivery . . . as opposed to a ship ride across the Atlantic.

G42 & G87. Mexico. World Launch. Confirmed.

Karl-Friedrich Koch, vice-president of production control, logistics at BMW Group Mexico talks to Christopher Ludwig about the ramp up in production at the carmaker’s plant in San Luis Potosí and how exports will now be aimed at 30 markets as opposed to just three. BMW is doubling capacity at the plant and adding rail to ship vehicles to the US and Canada. It is also addressing the increasing complexity of inbound parts supply for additional models with more variation that will be made for multiple global markets.

He started in R&D production technology at the Fraunhofer-Institut Produktionstechnologie in Aachen, Germany.

He moved into production control and logistics in 2009 at BMW’s Regensburg plant in Germany. He took up his current role in San Luis Potosi in June of 2015.

Pretty sure that, after marketing the new 4er as a distant successor to the 3.0 CS and even launching it in a similar color...

...they are going to market the new 2er as a distant successor to the 1600/2002, and to be fair the single headlights and the tail lights graphic are related:

Heritage already hinted to by the 2002 Hommage Concept:

I agree it's not great viewing for a new F87 M2CS owner who has dropped £80k on a car

The timing could be better.

But remember this isn't the M2 that's 2022 away. This is the regular new 2er that is a 2021 release and due pretty soon TBF.
Surely CS owners are buying the car knowing it is the last and best of its kind? That's certainly the reason I ordered mine.

Seeing this new design just made me a lot happier!

I do not want to be negative, but BMW has a real design department issue.
Every time I am looking forward to a new leak to WOW me, but since 2018, I've only been disappointed.

First the connected grills, then the huge grills, then the mess of lines and shapes in the lower bumper, then the lung grills, then the loss of the kink, then the loss of the coronas, why can't BMW make anything elegant and just a good clean looking design anymore?!

It's just so disheartening to see this brand do this.

I believe this is because the car is a clay model, therefore the grille slats are not real, but only a graphic to visualize it
