Should I buy an X4 M40i or wait for the M340i?
Currently looking for my next car and driving a put put lol.
Would love a Macan s or GTS but with their price ratios Id have to be rich for them to rob me. Its absolutely ridiculous how much they want for leases when the cars depreciate so fast and the msrps arent that high. So Anywho I really like the x4 M40 but its not the best looking thing. I also dont know if I want a super heavy car or not so im thinking hmmm. The new 3 series being revealed next week seems pretty bad ass and with the features and looks new size and road stance it might actually be worth waiting for ? Also getting the same engines as the x3/x4 so thats awesome IDk if its just me but driving a 5er on bad roads verse a 3er ive felt more safe and sturdy. But the new 3er looks like a baby 5er may have fixed these problems that ultimately made me even consider a crossover or suv. Need some insight guys |

you know how leases work right... the leases are high because the cars depreciate so fast. bmw if anything used to grossly subsidize leases and ends up making less on leased cars which is why they are lowering the residuals lately and leases have started getting more expensive

The average lease is like financing at 18%. Consider buying at 1-5% and selling after 2 years and save some cash if you are going that route |

In reality BMW significantly subsidizes their leases historically. Also if you actually do the math you will see lease and purchase are within a few percentage points in cost depending on how your state taxes a lease. It also provides a guaranteed buyout price at the end of the lease that protects you from shifting markets. If the car is damaged during the lease period you don't have to deal with a derogatory on the title when selling you simply hand the keys back to the dealer and walk away. |

For the OP, as an owner of an X3 M40i and a current gen 340i, the X3 is way more fun to drive. I am sure they will fix a lot of the issues with the G series 340, but do not shy away from the SUV based on driving experience.

i guess the fundamental question you have to ask yourself is whether you want a sedan or suv
I find the X3 kinda bulky for my taste, so I would go with either the X2 or M340i. |

If you are flipping cars every 2-3 years, you will lose a MASSIVE amount of money buying it and selling it versus leasing. BMW leases have artificially high residual values that make the lease cost extremely cheap. Much cheaper than competitors. They falsely advertise similar depreciation rates as a Japanese economy car. In reality, almost all BMWs are worth far less than their residual values at the end of their leases. And you might not know, but a lease is just paying the depreciation costs of a car plus some interest. So you're almost guaranteed to come out ahead if you lease a BMW and get rid of it over buying and selling after 3 years. I personally like working on my cars and buying with short term financing, but my wife likes shiny new cars. So we lease for her and she can drive a brand new X5 for about the same as it'd cost to lease a Mercedes GLC. Basically, a $63k BMW leases for about the same as a $50k Mercedes. |

I bought a 2011 335i but got it in Dec 2010 special order. I financed through BMW at the time it was like 2% finance charge. It was a 4 yr loan but I paid it off in 3. I haven’t had a car payment in 5 yrs. I generally keep my cars 6-9 yrs. I’m looking to buy a new car in a yr or 2 and dreading a car payment again. I’ve never leased.
I’m considering either an X3 M40 or X2 M35 (not yet out) or the new 3 series just released. It’s fun shopping huh? Last edited by Bimmerforlife; 10-01-2018 at 05:18 PM.. |

No the X3 is awesome I've drove it a few times. Do I need a big suv? I don't think so. I'm usually in my car alone why all the extra car?
