Any Suggestions to Stop Unwanted "Marketing" e-mails?

No, I am not talking about the typical spam. We all know how to deal with that. I am referring to the type like when you buy something from an online retailer and then your e-mail address becomes a target of their frequent spam for "specials", "No Shipping Charges for 48 Hours" and such.

Yeah, I know they have an option to "unsubscribe" so you can opt out by following the link at the bottom of their e-mails. And most bigger, reputable and more sophisticated retailers follow up on that request diligently. However, some smaller (or "peskier") ones do not - no matter how many times you "unsubscribe" from their newsletter service. You can reply back to the spam. If you write them an e-mail, most never respond back. And they are the type who really piss me off because most come through a general and well published e-mail address that I use for my business. And it's getting worse these days because every one is trying their best to make a sale.

Any suggestions on how to stop (or pay back) this semi-legit spammers?

I guess you'll have to stop buying stuff off porn sites while at work...

That's a good suggestion. The only problem is that I use Paypal for paying for most of my purchases because I do not want my credit card information to spread all over the place and be subject to a "security breach" paranoia later. And my Paypal is tied to one of my main e-mail addresses. I guess I can change that but Paypal is getting more restrict about these sort of things because online scams and fraud is so prevalent these days.

Thanks

Yes, but we route everything through Google Mail first to take care of 99% of regular spams.

i was going to suggest having google host it. that's what i did with my email and that almost solved it. i still get a straggler or two every now and then, but i just launch the gmail page and mark it as spam then it's gone forever.

Exactly ...That's why I switched. Best spam solution, IMO. The problem I cited is for the other "semi-legit" kind.

Add that e-mail to your block list in Gmail? If you actually do go to that site and order something legitimate, you'll know to go to the spam folder and look for the receipt.

Just flag it as spam, if the spam filter you're using doesn't suck then that's all you should have to do.

When you buy something... All other emails from them have a unsubscribe tab on the bottom... Hit that and it should ask you to confirm... I did it a couple of times
