The "things I wish I knew/did when I was younger" thread

Just like the title says...

I am all about learning from people who have been there/done that. What advice would you give to someone in their 20's?

Career
Money
Women
Life in general
etc

This will most likely turn into a goat porn, ass pics thread, but we will see how it goes

Save in your Ira and 401k as much as possible. Don't forget to enjoy yourself. Take chances when you can handle them. You gotta be in it to win it. Don't over abuse your joints. What goes around comes around. Don't blame others for failures. Take responsibility. Sure things typically aren't. Always have a backup plan. Family first. Nobody will protect you but yourself. Try to improve yourself and learn something each day. Always look at both sides objectively. Don't take anything as correct or right just because people you know or respect say it is. Don't fuck with the cops. Set a goal and work towards it. If you live your life safe and boring, you didn't "live" your life. You got through it. Don't hide in your comfort zone. Live with a woman before you marry her. Never hit a woman. Explore new places. Find a career that's profitable, you're good at it, and you enjoy. For me, in that order of priority. It's called work for a reason.stay active. A body in motion stays in motion. Learn how to use tools and do things yourself when possible.

Wish I knew when I was younger that almost everyone in corporate America are Ahole, demanding, pushy and and a bit sociopathic..higher up he/she is the worse it gets. If I knew that then I would've probably chosen a different career path..

I have seen a bit of that already. Definitely some exceptions, but I agree.

For some reason, the one that always stood with me advice wise from elders was received from my friends grandfather - "always use moisturizer..." I thought it was odd so maybe that's why it stuck with me, especially because he was a manly man / grandpa whatever... But he'd tell us to use moisturizer / sunblock on our faces...

The rest of the stuff is too deep for a goat porn forum...

Just for the record, let it be known that I did not instigate the derailment this time, although my picture may.

Things I did when I was younger;
Women, find one that respects you and don't stick your dick in crazy unless all you plan to do is stick your dick in.

Cocaine/hard drugs will do no good, even though fun for those whimsical 15 minutes of rush.

A good credit score can get you far in life.

Have a savings and make sure you're signed up for your company's 401k match.

Don't *EVER* try to "fix" someone. If you get involved with someone who does something you can't deal with, accept that it's not going to work between you and walk away.

Save money for your future, but don't starve in the present to do so. Don't waste money on status. If you buy a house, buy one that you can afford easily and that makes sense for you. Why have 3 empty bedrooms or a huge living room you never spend time in?

Think before you speak, especially when you're angry. This goes double for emails and texting. Facebook and Twitter are the biggest threats to your career. Never forget that.

Travel. Often. And not to the same place all the time. See the world and you'll understand it a lot better.

I mean honestly. I'm not old by any means, but basic shit that 20 year olds should be aware of, isn't really taught in HS or college, like finances, 401k, pensions, taxes, billing cycles, etc.

Just be smart about life. Choose the right people to let in, and rid yourself of the ones who affect you negatively. Do things that make you happy, but be smart about it at the same time, and tactful of your future. It's good and fun to live in the now, and to have some padding in case something happens.

And last, don't make people priorities that only make you an option.

I'm pretty sure we've done this topic before but anyways...

Live within your means. Stay away from debt unless student loans or a mortgage.

Don't expect to change someone. You won't be able to. Don't waste time trying.

See as much of the world as possible.

The saving for the future, yet not staving thing is a balancing act I am trying to figure out still. Want to have fun, but also want to be smart about it.

The last two are great advice. I am trying to go on a 2 week vacation every year. Did Europe this year, going again next year. Traveling is a huge deal to my fiance as well, so it makes it easy to talk her into it

Career: No matter what the first plan is, be prepared for changes. Life does happen and if you accept that early, it'll be easier for you.
Money: Don't be a slave to it, fix your spending.
Women: I wouldn't do that again.
Life in general: Don't break a heart. It's not what it does to one you broke but more what it will do to you.

Etc: Life is a process that will blow your mind. Enjoy it, the hard times are the spice that makes it all worth it.

Haven't heard that last one before, but I like it!

As far as 401k, etc goes, I am lucky that I work for a company that has one of the best 401k matches and healthcare in the nation. Takes a lot of stress out of things...
