My new lens!

Just got the Canon 70-200 IS II L Its amazing, and amazingly heavy. Here are a few quick shots. Super clear, and great color.

The middle image is a bit soft. My fault, I picked the wrong one and I'm too lazy to change it. Overall, I am very impressed with this lens. Heading to devils tower and yosemite next week so I'll run it through its paces then.

Yes. Better optics, faster focus and image stabilization.

The f/2.8 is a great lens, but many of us don't need the extra aperture size and find the EF 70-200mm f/4L IS really stunning. Here's something I took with mine last week:

Gulp! I have the 1st gen and it was my work horse when I used to shoot weddings. Love that lense. Its almost impossible to think how they can improve that lense.

Nice pic. Yes you are right, if you are not shooting in-doors, the f4 is the better option. Lighter and just as sharp. Thinking about picking one up for vacations

for the op and Trijicon, what camera body are you using? I'm still new to photography and i've recently been using the 17-55 IS 2.8 lense that i picked up this past summer on my Canon T1i and I don't think I am able to get quality shots like the ones posted. Or maybe I need to get out of the aperture priority mode. i dunno

Amazing shots from both. They really give off that "Crystal clear" look. I'm a novice but will be looking at this lens very carefully if I decide to upgrade and take it to the next level.

That's a sweet pic, and I agree that the original lens is outstanding, but I HAD to have the new version. I have the 2.8 24-70, and the low light performance with that lens is outstanding. I figured the 70-200 was the perfect partner to it.

I can't speak for DC, but I have the 5D MkII. I also got the X2 adaptor and I am looking forward to my Yellowstone trip next week to run it through its paces. As for your quality issues, I think you can still get excellent quality from your gear. You may not see all of the color separation or bokeh from what you have, but gear snobbery comes at a very steep premium.

Just shoot what you have until you can afford/need something else.

I think it's possible man. I took some pretty nice shots with my 17-55mm and XTi.

Truer words were never spoken. Geez....while I have been heavily resisting the urge to add telephoto zoom to my len arsenal....you go and buy this! I think you secretly hate me. lol

Joonsup, there is a price to be paid for higher quality optics. That doesn't mean you can't take some good shots w/o them, though. Here's a pic I took using a 18-55mm IS kit lens on my XTi. It's still one of my favorite pix (sorry if this is a threadjack).

Jeff, I don't hate you! I fought it as long as I could, but...Must...not...buy...lens... I was weak! But now I'm happy if a bit less wealthy

The real reason I ponied up was so that I could not blame any shortcomings on my gear. This way I know its all technique and I have more work to do. The benefits like faster time on focus or better color separation are just justifications or excuses for spending money. You should thank me for helping this economy!

yeah it's a good lens. I just haven't put it to much use since I bought it a year ago. It's just crazy to see how much prices have gone up. It was running for about $1600-1700 last May and now it's gone up $200-300. Crazy...
