don't bother. get a better deal on a body only and buy a better piece of glass to go with it than what they include in their "package".

What are some good lenses to start out with on the Xsi. I was thinking the standard canon 18-55mm IS lens, the canon 55-250 IS lens, and I also heard about the cheap but very good 55mm lens.

Would these 3 be good to start out with?

18-55 IS and 55-250 IS are great starter lenses. A lot of people like them. Check out www.photography-on-the.net for more info. That's an all Canon forum.

fwiw, when reading ken rockwell stuff, i would take everything with a grain of salt...

Buy the best camera you can afford from Canon or Nikon. The lenses are more important than the camera though. Spend more money on the lense than the camera itself and you'll get terrific results.
