Crumpler makes some bomb-proof bags, and they don't look like they have thousands of dollars of camera gear in them, either.

Thanks for the suggestion. Nice bags indeed, but even their largest camera bag won't fit half of my equipment.

picked up a Domke F-5XC for my Mamiya kit. frickin' love it. i was worried it'd be too small or bulky. it's a nice on-location/street bag to hold the giant Mamiya, an extra lens, two extra film backs, and about 5 rolls of film without stuffing it.

kinda unrelated because of the special need it filled, but yeah.

For the vast majority of my travels I've been using this bag. It's got a ton of space, and quick access to your camera through the side port so you don't have to take off the backpack to take a quick picture. Only complaint I have is there is no easy way to carry a tripod with it.

If you want something a little nicer looking you could try this one. It's a bit expensive, and on back order, but they make good bags. I've got their messenger bag, and use it whenever I'm traveling light and don't need the extra space.

Wow, this bag has definitely been added to my list of things to get. Not the most practical at the moment, but definitely trendy. Thanks.

Seriously, if I were able to accomplish my shoots with just my 5D2 and 24-70L, I would only take that setup... but I can't.

I love their messenger bag. It's great quality, and I can only assume that the back pack carries the same quality.

For the most of my travels, not knowing what photographic opportunities may come my way, I take a full bevy of DSLR lenses and filters and my S95 with me, just to cover bases. If I expect to shoot some video, I bring my GoPro's and video cameras as well. All of this, properly packed, can fit in the backpack I have. It may weigh more than carry-on allowance, or even my check bag some times, but once you point out it's $10k worth of equipment and put the agent on blast for liability, they let you through no problems.

Thanks for the tip -- I'll definitely be using it if I'm confronted about bag weight

OK, saw both bags at Adorama. The measurements on the Tenba site are WAY off -- the bag is much smaller than listed. The Tenba Medium Shooter is actually smaller than the Thinktank Accelerated.

So, which to value more? The protection/security offered by the travel dedicated Thinktank bag (ability to lock zippers, tether entire bag with security cord, etc.), or the many useful camera-oriented features of the Tenba (but no security to the bag at all -- openings everywhere allow access to the inside of the bag). This is going to be a tough decision...

are you wanting to also use the bag during the shoots or just for travel?

I'll use it to transport to shoots, but I won't be wearing it during shoots.

I went with the Thinktank Airport Accelerated. Will post pics of it loaded up when I get it in. Seemed to be the best fit for travel and I'll just wear a Thinktank Retrospective Lens Changer bag for quick lens changing during shoots.

OK, so the Airport Accelerated was way too big. Great bag, but too much room. I ultimately decided that I'll be leaving a few lenses behind depending on the shoot (e.g. leave the 24-70 behind to bring the 24, 35, 50, 135). No need to bring every single lens, so I downsized to the Airport Antidote which will without a doubt fit underneath the seat in front of me on the airplane.

Pics for comparison:
