If you look really closely, when the wheel comes back in to frame and comes to a stop, it looks like the brake disc is still attached to the wheel.

And with the NVH of the jacked up suspension and that wheel/tire package, I can easily see how the average driver wouldn't notice it.

To add insult to injury the loose wheel comes right back and strikes the mini van again and the pick up truck appeared to have some very wide wheel spacers on it.

I wonder if a cheap spacer failed.

I laugh every time I see a truck with spaced out wheels like that, dumb look for people who dont know any better. Sheep like mentality... started by an idiot and perpetuated by more idiots.

Hopefully he's charged for this stunt. No more of an accident than a guy towing an over loaded trailer with a rusted out axel.

Looks like the hub failed. The spacer was certainly adding extra stress, but the failure was on the other side of the brake assembly.

What kind of car is that getting hit? If I was that car manufacturer I would incorporate that video into every commercial highlighting safety. The fact no major injuries tells me that's the safest car on the road considering that incident

Yes, if you check the video frames, definitely a disc still attached.

I note the truck is signalling, brake lights come on as the wheel fails. Doesn't look as if it was an evasive manoeuvre that triggered it.

I'm stunned that the driver in the Kia wasn't seriously injured going airborne that high at speed.

He may be liable in civil court and the modding of the vehicle will likely make it a pretty easy case.

This... exactly this ! Big ass wheel and tire combos pushed out with 3" spacer and truck lifted in air about to take off. All of that is supposed to be stopped by brake rotors that are as small as the owners you know what ! Instead of CHP handing out tickets for mufflers and tints, they gotta cite the living crap out of these cars or even impound them. There should be laws against these tanks cruising around among regular cars. These things can cause serious damage to other cars/drivers on the road when involved in a crash. You'd think CHP would be rounding up these Jeeps etc instead of bugging you and I for an intake. These ridiculous cars shouldn't be allowed on public roads.

The tall mini van is small and light and the 20'' plus wheel from the truck launched it like a tonka toy, it may appear in one piece rolling over but probably wouldn't fare that well in a one to one collision with another vehicle.
