My favorite car forum has been taken over by hippies.

I wonder what my car puts out with 0 cats.

No, I refuted your point. The H1 is worse tha the H2 or H3 for anyting other than open desert running, and even thenm the military hates the H1 due to breaking all the time and being a bitch to work on. I'd rather have one of the others, that use common GM parts.

Quote:
my point is: why dont people who buy H2s and H3s, buy suburbans or tahoes? they are cheaper too. the new suburbans look pretty nice and function almost the same way. all you're really paying for [when you buy an H2 or H3] is the word "hummer"
The H2 is based on the Tahoe center frame, but the front and rear thirds are unique to the H2, and they use a combination of 2500 series HD suspension and drivetrain, as well as a number of custom parts not available on the Tahoe/Suburban. Unlike the Tahoe or Suburban, most of the undercarriage is different in order to raise the at-risk parts above the bottom of the frame rails in order to not get damaged off road. Even the 4x4 pickups don't do that. PLUS there are custom outrigger frame rails and skid plates to protect it even further.

So, there are a lot of reasons that the H2 was engineeered the way it was. Just because a bunch of suburban soccer moms and hip hop stars won't ever use the capability of the vehicle, doesn't mean the vehicle itself is uncapable or simply a Tahoe with a different skin.

The H3 is simply a smaller version.

I prefer Range Rovers, early Toyota 4x4 pickups, and my favorite, modded baja bugs! for offroad use. But I won't dismiss the Hummer's capabilities (I'll simply dismiss most owners as poseurs)

And the most beautiful H2 on the planet: Muddog!

A hobby that in this case doesn't take too much time, because the BS is so easily recognizable.

So, I'm bumping my own thread to give an update.

I've owned the H3T just over two years now. Over the weekend two fault codes came up in the Driver Information Center (DIC); one for the stability control system failure and the other for inoperable 4X4 operation. So on Sunday, after checking the transfer case fuse and finding it good, and once I reached cell service, I hit the On-Star button and had On-Star run a diagnostics check. They reported the codes to me, and told me the issue was a known problem (communication between the transfer case module and ABS module). I made a service appointment at Moore Cadillac in Chantilly, Virginia for Wednesday. After being over an hour late for my 8AM appointment, Moore took in the truck at 9:15AM. At which time I also informed them the inner right halfshaft seal was seeping fluid. At 11:45AM they called me letting me know a TSB had been issued for the transfer case control motor, which was replaced with an updated part. The halfshaft was found to be corroded and tearing up the seal. The seal and halfshaft were both replaced under warranty. I got to drive a nice new CTS to work and had my truck back before 12:30PM. All at no cost to me and no hassle of rejecting a warranty claim.

Thought I'd share with all the butt heads who gave me crap for buying a POS Hummer 2 years ago. I've never received such quick and hassle-free service from BMW...

happy to hear they are taking care of you.

my brother had an h2 that was completely trouble free for 90,000 miles (that's 9,000 gallons in h2 speak) it killed 3 other cars in its life and never needed touch up paint, didn't even have to change the tires before trading it in. my mom has one with over 70,000 miles also trouble free.

I personally hate driving the h2, I may be a little tall for it, I can't see out ofthe damn thing.

LOL. Thanks. I bought the H3T for my wife to replace her '95 Jeep Wrangler. I just love the thing. It was way over priced (retail – I paid $7K less) for what it is as far as interior and amenities, but as a capable 4x4, which we need, it can't be beat. I’ve relly enjoyed owning it. What I really like is the owner’s manual, which is very technically informative as compared to a current BMW where all technical information is “please go to the dealer so he can take care of that for you.”

We are averaging 15.8 MPG. For a heavy, brick-shaped vehicle w/ 4-sp auto and GM small block, I'm satisfied with the fuel consumption.

The H1 is so big it just can't get into a lot of places where a much smaller vehicle like a Land Rover can.

Anyone who owns a car is part of the problem. If you want to get on a pedestal, ride a bike.

OP, post some pics and call this thread done.

CORRECTION:
anyone who owns a Prius is part of the problem. I love telling Prius owners just how their "eco-friendly" car has done more damage to the environment before they even drive it off the lot than my capitalist BMW will [more than likely] ever do.

The Hummer might be the most hated car on the road. And I don't think it's because it gets crap mileage, but just for what it stands for.

I don't understand understand how people are complaining about excess! You clearly have situation where the truck is justified, I don't know how people can justify buying a 135 over a 128, or even a BMW period, besides just saying its excess. And for the guys driving 1M's and anything twin turbocharged etc. that are complaining about the environment? Holy crap. If your that worried then go ahead and make the ultimate sacrifice and do the only thing you can to make your carbon footprint 0, wipe yourself off the face of the earth. Cows pollute more than cars so shut it about how horrible one freaking car is for the earth.

OP, I love h3's. I had a rental with the 5 cylinder and thought the whole time man, if this had a v8 it'd be an awesome truck. 6 months later they came out with the Alpha! It warranted a trip to check it out. I commend you on how you handled this thread (the first couple of pages are filled with absolute douche bags) as well! I am glad you and your wife are enjoying the car.

That is if you even consider C02 a pollutant... All good points though. This green movement is getting out of hand.

Correct, but they also contribute a significant amount of Methane to the atmosphere. I just love coming across the green, hippie, prius, vegetarian type and pointing out how cows have such a poor impact on the environment and that they should do nature a favor and eat as much meat as possible! That is immediately followed with how damaging the process of refining prius's battery packs are. Usually at that point they run out of propaganda to spew out as arguments. I love nature, it is a part of us, and we are one with it, but I love smoking tires and burning fuel in a fury of compressed air even more!

Yes, the frame was the starting point, and then touched over in basically every single aspect. Relocating parts, strengthening, bracing, geometry etc. A 356 is basically a beetle, do you consider them the same car?

Ironic that the 2 most hated cars on this forum are the Hummer & the Prius, for exactly the opposite reasons..
