Tornio (Finland) (AFP) - Hundreds of predominantly Iraqi migrants who have travelled through Europe to reach Finland are turning back, saying they don't want to stay in the sparsely-populated country on Europe's northern frontier because it's too cold and boring.

Migrants have in recent weeks been crossing back into Sweden at the Haparanda-Tornio border just an hour's drive south of the Arctic Circle, and Finnish authorities have seen a rise in the number of cancelled asylum applications.

"You can tell the world I hate Finland. It's too cold, there's no tea, no restaurants, no bars, nobody on the streets, only cars," 22-year-old Muhammed told AFP in Tornio, as the mercury struggled to inch above 10 degrees Celsius (50 Fahrenheit) on a recent blustery grey day.

He had already travelled from Tornio to the capital Helsinki almost 750 kilometres (465 miles) south, and then back up to the Tornio border again to return to Sweden.

Here we are opening our arms and giving these people a new home and a fresh start because their own country is too violent to live in....and they're complaining that there's no Starbucks or iHop close by? to write a better answer, our political environment is a tough one to understand. The party perussuomalaiset is one I dislike with all my heart, they use old populist tricks to scare and to control people and the worst part for me is they hide behind this facade of being better than everyone else because they are bitter and mostly uneducated people.

though Perussuomalaiset is at the moment the second biggest party, they hold only 20% of the seats in our parliament.

I just wrote it to the other thread that Finns suck. You did me a favor by proving my point about our immigration policies and also this shows you very well why Europe also is facing difficult times.

It is not from what I've seen, but yes we have our issues and the reasons I explained in the other thread.

I'm raising my kids to realize we should be past this shit. A location is a pin on a map.

USA isn't the worst. I like being here too. I've found great people here. Pointing out issues is useful to us all. For example Finland gets bad press for racism since we talk about it a lot. We don't try to hide the issue, since we have a history of doing that and it never goes well.

It's Wade! According to my autocorrect it's Wade so then it is so! Adapt, adjust, and change your handle.

Perusuomalaiset isn't even a tough one. Our language as said is impossible and an adult is most likely going to fail if he tries to learn even the basics. Yet an other reason for refugees to hate living up there.

But as said, we've improved a lot. I see hope in the future but that is still a hope.

I just wrote this elsewhere but it works for this too.

"In my country you have to be able to proof you have a safe to store the ammo and the weapon, you can't buy a gun without providing proof. That alone slows down the kiddo when he decides to go off and murder his friends.

We had two school shootings in Finland, I was pretty impressed with what was done to the laws because of them but also the emphasis on detecting and treating mental illnesses was done.

In order for me to buy a gun back home I would have to be able to proof I have an active shooting hobby (a membership to a shooting range, proof I go there often enough that buying a gun would provide me with financial help instead of renting one from the range) or a membership to a hunting club, proof that I go out with my party actively, a test of my skills as a hunter, I'd have to pass a mental evaluation, a doctors evaluation and I would have to provide the proof of storage capability.

In order to go shoot my friends, it would take a ton of time to get those done, and even then I would be limited with a choice of weapons.

Then again, it takes two years to get a drivers license (a full license you can drive a car with, not a truck, a lorry, or a bike) there."

That limits shooting others efficiently too.

Yeah, but we try to do it before they flip, or we give them a permission to have a weapon, and our culture supports stabbing while drunk more than it does shootings.

We also have days every year when people can hand in their weapons (legal or illegal) with no precautions. When my grandfather died we had to dispose his collection the guy had collected though he didn't fire a gun in his life. That was the first time I held a gun after army and walking up to the police station was horrible. I brought my dogs to protect me from the grandmas who wants to carry to be safe.

(not even joking much, I feared more for my safety armed than I've never feared unarmed anywhere.)

Guys, I see these people every day here in Germany... I assure you, you do not want them where you are.. The refuse to adapt to the culture and want to make every place they go just like where they came from. They have no sense of value for the support they are given and resort to violence instantly when they do not get what they want. Women here in the town I live in are scared to go out after dark because of the assaults. The stores here are not even allowed to press charges against them for theft because the government can't handle it as it is. Germany is going to crap..
