E39 Locking Mechanism Troubleshooting

Hey everyone! I just got a sweet E39 as a daily. As luck would have it, both my keys stopped working at the same time, so I now Have to unlock my car by sliding the key into the key slot in the door. Additionally every time I try to unlock the trunk without unlocking the car first the alarm goes off. Now, I am not sure if both my key batteries died at the same time or if this is an issue with the central locking system.

Anyone have any recommendations on how to troubleshoot? I was thinking of replacing both my key batteries first and then seeing what happens. Thoughts?

Did you figure it out? I'd look at the service record to see how old the battery is, and most importantly the evolution of the mileage over the years (a car that is not driven a lot will wear out its battery more quickly)

I did not solve it, and my battery is a new Bosch unit
