They really are hard of hearing from what the manufacturers are pleading, except to their own speak.

Would you prefer it if your govt just adopted whatever policy a (large) manufacturer told it to? Would you be okay with the British govt saying, “welp, Toyota says EVs aint gonna happen so shut it down.” What if Toyota said tricycles was the future?

Yes, profit motive has created very good things. Government does not operate on profit motive. That's why the US is $37T in debt.

Heavier tyres with stiffer sidewalls make them handle like a mattress also.

Bozo vetoes law blocking EV charging stations' 'Buy America' waiver
January 24, 2024
WASHINGTON (Reuters) -Bozo on Wednesday vetoed legislation aimed at reversing his administration's waiver of "Buy America" requirements for government-funded electric vehicle (EV) charging stations, according to a senior U.S. official.
The veto came the same day Bozo's 2024 re-election campaign won the endorsement of the United Auto Workers, a politically influential union that has sought the administration's protection amid the transition to electric vehicles.

Yes yet another example of unions screwing their members and politicians screwing Americans. But hey look over here, it's Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce.

Yes, all EVs get only 7000 miles out of a set of tires. This is to be expected. I actually replace my tires after just 2000 miles. Sometimes I just turn around after they are replaced and go back and get them replaced.

The point eugenebmw is making warrants that EV tyres generally have a shorter lifespan compared to lighter gas cars because of their heavier weight.

That was clickbait bs at 7K. If someone in a Camry asked me what to expect on tire wear I would NOT base my estimate off my prior M5 or my S Plaid.

Okay, but what is the number? I necessarily do not adhere that EV are significantly heavier than ICEV where tire wear is that much greater. But are EV-specific rubber compounds and tread patterns designed for quieter operation affecting shorter tire lifespans?

I’m not against a non hair on fire reasonable discussion, but I’m against Clickbait BS.
By definition, the heavier the car generally the faster the tire wear. But the article about an EV car getting 7000 miles per set of tires is ridiculous. The first C 63 AMG was having some issues with tire wear but I wouldn’t extrapolate that to every ICE vehicle and I had a C63 AMG. I think it was mainly a rear camber issue and the torque.

I've said this before... I think the govt got way too involved in things they shouldn't have... namely for the purposes of this discussion - a ton of money headed towards EVs and credits, that we just don't have.

WHICH... ironically was led by corporate lobbying in the form of Tesla looking for a handout and later not paying their taxes and / or moving locations to prevent payment of taxes... here is where the GOVT didn't get involved and just let things pass.

That's the circle of life in this country. We can no longer afford a fraction of what we currently spend money on.

None taken because you have that backwards. Fascism is when corporations do the will of the Govenment. Fascism is when the Government will not let corporations exist unless the corporation acts how the government wants it to act.

Fascism is when social interests are replaced by those of a private entity.

I'd say all of EV started with the California Air Resources Board in the late 1960's. First it was emissions standards in California with the goal always to eventually reach zero-emission cars (electric powered by the sun). Then the formation of the EPA in 1970. Fast forward to the Energy Policy Act of 2005, which is where Federal Government investment in alternate fueled vehicles made it into the tax code. That law initiated the tax credit for consumers at $3,750. That law predates Tesla is its current form (it wasn't even producing cars in any significant manner. 2009 via the Obama administration brought a doubling of three tax credit to $7,500 for a alternate-fuel vehicle with a minimum 15kWh battery and an increase in the sunset count of 200,000 (from originally just 60,000).

It's possible Tesla lobbied the Obama administration and the 110th/111th Congress but I'm not sure it had enough clout in 2008/2009; it was making the Tesla Roadster at the time as a boutique manufacturer.

Government participation in EV has been since the beginning an effort to address anthropogenic climate change. (The ultimate Chicken Little Story).
