Good deal for PPF?

My friend is one of the top guys at an exotic car dealer. Told me the dual price for front end ppf would be $2200 but he’d cut me a deal at $1700. I have no idea if this is a good deal or not?
Also this shop has been doing ppf for 5+ years and have done many higher end cars than M3 and I have zero worry about them honoring the warranty incase anyone questions that part of the deal 😎

Depends on:
- amount of body coverage
- experience of installer and the quality of work
- type of install - precut template or film cut by hand and tucked in (no visible PPF edges)
- where you live ~ high cost of living area, etc.
- whether you have carbon fiber exterior package (inlets), front lip?
- brand of film

$1700 for front end is good value if it includes full front bumper including vents, hood, front quarter panels, mirrors in edge less install with a reputable film at an installer that offers a 10+ year warranty. It’s only meaningful if the installer in likely to be around 10 years from now.

You haven’t shared enough info but if you want to know what one of the best installers charge in a HCOL area, search for Metropolian Detail online - pricing is transparently posted online.

They did my full car including all CF exterior parts (wing, winglets, etc) + windshield protection film + ceramic on wheels and calipers for about $13K.

I’ve recently paid £1,800 for full front end PPF, which included: bonnet, front bumper, front wings, headlights, mirror caps/covers and he also did the gloss black door pillars

This was good value, I was also quoted £2,600 for a front end PPF by another reputable company near me, so there is some variation in quotes

The quote you’ve been given seems very reasonable, so as long as you trust them to do a good job and they’re using a quality PPF brand/product, then it’s a decent deal assuming the front wings are included - try and get them to throw in PPF for the mirror caps

It's not such a special price, and they all start out with the retail vs what they'll do it for.

STL best films and coatings is going to be a great place to go, but I personally use i-Tint in STL and I'm SUPER PARTICULAR, and have had fantastic luck with them. I don't think you can go wrong with either.

Good deal for a PPF is one that's done right and not by someone that saw a TikTok video and bought a roll. So many PPF installers have sprung up. Attention to detail cannot be taught. I'm not even sure it can be learned; you don't know what you don't know. I can't even trust detailers to not damage the car, so it remains encrusted with brake dust and dirt most of the time.

I get it though, I do most all of the detail and wrench work on my own car for the same reason, but you can ask around and find competence, it's just in short supply these days.

Well given that I've already had two recommended detailers damage the vehicle, however minor (like scratching the trunk and pulling the rail out on the roof), is it really a negative view?

Oh forgot to mention. My first M5, I had another highly recommend (by multiple people) PPF installer do $4500 in damage to the car and had it over a month... and in the end produced a very mediocre wrap job.

But I guess it's just pessimism...

And I absolutely disagree with the claim that anything can be learned. I'm gonna guess how you vote, living in the land of ideals.

Sounds like you've had some bad luck.

The fact that you'd guess how I vote is also very telling. However, you're incorrect. I didn't vote. I don't vote unless I find someone worthy of my vote, and that happens quite infrequently.

Lastly, I've been something of a teacher my entire life, so I know attention to detail can be taught.

It's only a good deal AFTER you see the car when it's done. I've seen absolutely awful PPF work and it's a disgrace.

I just paid $3400 for my 911 full front, mirrors, a pillar, lower sides (including lower part of doors) and partial rear fender. This was at a highly recommended PPF installer.

$1,700 for front PPF seems like a good deal to me. Just beware as this was an example of a good deal gone wrong as the ppf wasn't done right on this part and started peeling. They needed to take it off and re-do it.
