In my neck of the woods, you don't have to wait for much.
I just switched cell carriers and decided to give the iPhone a try since all of my home computers are mac and all of my music is stored in iTunes. I'm pretty impressed with the iPhone so far. What case is that on yours? It looks great! I'm thinking about picking up one of these titanium backing plates for mine: |

Hunting at sunrise:
Hunting at sunrise by dcstep, on Flickr This coyote was hunting so close to the road that I used my 5D MkII with the 70-200mm f/4L IS with the 1.4x TC on to shoot at 280mm, f/7.1, ISO 800 and 1/1600-sec. It's only 30-minutes after sunrise, causing the natural high saturation of the brown fur.

^^^Great shot, Dave. But how did you get 1\1600 shutter speed at f7.1? What ISO? I was shooting flowers this weekend with the 24-105mm at about 70mm and f4 and I was struggling to get get 1/50 sec at 200 ISO.

I could have gone down to ISO 400 for this shot and opened up accordingly (f/5.6 would be the limit for the f/4 70-200mm plus the 1.4x TC), but when I'm shooting wildlife I tend to set both bodies as if I'm shooting the 500mm, which demands more SS. This is with the 5D MkII, with plenty of light, so I had tons of options. Dave

I'll take CC on this.
I liked how the branches were in the canopy and wanted to reduce the amount of ground there was in the pic. Critique?

Kevin, I like the photo, but I can't help but think something is missing in it. I think the issue may be that the canopy of leaves get in the way of bringing to focus the crazy tree. I wonder how this scene would look in winter or even late fall, when there are far fewer leaves around.
I tried to convert it to an IR photo, but that didn't come out as good as I wanted it to... hope you don't mind

I think you're trying to capture the light through the canopy, but it's very hard because of the extreme dynamic range. You might have tried three or five-shot HDR to try to capture realistic dynamic range. Dave

This is Maui, so there is no Winter or Fall I think.
I see where you are going with the conversion Chewy, desaturate the green and convert? The only other thing I would do, like Dave mentioned would be to increase the black level and possibly the contrast also. I did shoot a bracketed batch of ~6 steps for a possible HDR attempt but I will have to leave that to another computer and probably my son whos PS skills far surpass that of mine. I think it might be some compression but that photo sure looks soft here. I rented a 16-35 and had to try it on something. I miss mine Matt, very nice with that angle.

I don't mind at all. Mine is the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal from the initial invasion of Iraq in 2003. I spent 2.5 years in Iraq between 2003-2007. Yes, it's mine. I'm fending off the mod bug now. Somehow, new tires makes me think I need new wheels, too! Last edited by MATT0404; 07-20-2011 at 12:39 AM.. |
