Yes OTA removes the need to involve the dealer with updates. To me in car if something works just leave it alone. With a smart phone probably the level of tolerance with screw ups due to botched updates is more tolerable than on a car where it can cripple functions and open up the door to would be hackers. And hackers are the proverbial white elephant across the room that no one talks about..

Except Tesla includes real car features, like increased power and range and not just infotainment (although I do think the dash cam and sentry modes are useful).

But it's a start...

yeah, what he said. My 2019 330xi says the same thing. How do you get it to update?

If you can't do over the air update you can't patch security either, no?

I mean in these day and age can't expect 100% off line (the more hacking proof way).

Right now iDrive6 only allow over the air update on map but doesn't stop someone figure out some unwanted code path to end up touching something else either

Well, not sure what's a better business model, put all option in and just wait for user to bite on enable later or force all or nothing on day 1 (from BMW stand point of view)

Do they include a software update for cheap paint jobs and poor range in cold weather conditions?

Tesla interior is definitely not up to par but it's improving, so is panel gap, and they do over the air update proper. I really like how they push the conventional manufacture to finally "do something" though.

Edit: though regarding to interior, not a fan of the vegan leather...

The model s interior is quite nice but that car is super expensive

Done upgraded to latest... way less buggy now. Speed limit now displays the word "limit" instead of "- - " when in a parking garage. So far that's all I've noticed.

How were you able to upgrade OTA?
What market are you located in? Vehicle/model? Steps of the process?

Thanks in advance!

My 2019 M859i is on 3/2019 version and the software update check says what I have is the latest. Something isn't right.

Mid Atlantic USA version installed 03/2019.48

Just clicked search for updates. From the car menu under general. Had my phone paired via command connect. Worked seamlessly.

What's Command Connect? iOS or Android?
I'm not sure I have that option...

Oh well not so much for us in iDrive 6 I suppose...
Toyota has been doing this as well. But their Infotainment system is total trash.
