The only exception to this is that I happen to really like the CZ 75. I just recall that being very pleasant to shoot, extremely flat felt recoil it seemed, and I was reasonably accurate with it for a novice. But only got to shoot it one day, but it has lived on in my memory since then. If the law was repealed and *if* I were to get another handgun, that would be the one.
I'm a Glock guy but that was my side arm for a very long time 10's of 1000's of rounds through it. It's like a second skin for me.

In terms of both recoil control and accuracy, the best pistol I ever shot was a Steyr M9.

I later came to understand the reason for that was likely because the pistol's barrel was lower (i.e., closer to the operator's axis of control) than that of the typical pistol. For me, that firearm simply shot soft, and it did so very accurately.

It has been a very bad work week (…two barricaded suspects in a 3 day period) and this incident in our station lobby yesterday night really made it that much worse. I don’t truly think she meant to kill herself. She was trying to kill one of my partners.

Be well, my brother! If not a grateful nation, there are still members of said nation that are extremely grateful!

That seems rather graphic for CBS to post.

Is the deputy being criticized for losing their pistol?

Not publicly, but he will be given the nature of my department. When we work inside (…e.g. Watch, dispatcher, call taker, etc.), we always wear a pancake holster only. That’s status quo across the entire department, but they will try to make an example. The female had mental issues and was causing a stir in our lobby. They had to detain her and get her under control.

Our inside people used to wear a pancake holster but then the dept. put an end to that unless they uses a proper plainclothes security holster. Hopefully nothing sticks.

Sedan, et al...

How do you guys view cars with "I go fast" type stickers all over their cars? Do you figure they are advertising their lack of "law-abideness," or it just doesn't enter into your thought process? Just a bit curious...

Depends. If they're driving like an idiot they likely got attention. If it was a very cool car maybe a thumbs up maybe a traffic stop so I could check it out.

I'm not a LEO, but used to drive around every spring/summer/fall with the complete SCCA national decal package on my car and was never pulled over.

I also was one of three drivers on a One Lap of America team many moons ago, who drove 6,000+ miles around the country in a fully-decalled car. We were only pulled over when we deserved it, like driving over a buck twenty on a 55 MPH two-lane road through the desert.....

Yeah, but that was because it was pitch-black out, right?

That one was around 2 PM, and cost the team member who was driving at the time a whopping $105.

I was in Nevada a year earlier, driving from Wendover to Ely on US-93 after sunset. It was the first and only time where I slowed down because I was out-driving my headlights.....

Did you know the guys that drove the Lincoln LS with, IIRC, the Coyote engine stuffed under the hood?

I ran San Francisco to Denver and back tens of times between the early 70s and the late 90s. Choosing routes that didn't include I-80 always offered by far the most enjoyable driving experience on those journeys. Running I-80 made the journey much easier in terms of the attention it required from the driver.

The best route in terms of the lack of enforcement, extraordinary scenery, and gloriously wide-open stretches of tarmac was (starting from Denver): I-70 West until it ended at I-15 in central Utah, and then US-50 West to I-80 West at Fernley east of Reno, the latter being the best. Running west out of Austin, NV is a 13-mile straightaway that is all about put-the-car-up-on-the-center-line and put-the-pedal-to-the-metal.

In terms of making time, after joining I-80 West it was always an issue of the day of the week and the time of the day. Traffic from Reno to the Bay Area could always be counted on to be dense. I tended to come back on Sundays so I could make it in to work Monday morning. It was like swimming is a very dense school of fish.

Google shows the route from my dad's home in Denver to mine in SF taking 19:19. The last time I ran it, it took just over 15 hours, including two very short stops for fuel. There is a lot of room for making time out West.

My guess is that drivers wanting to enjoy long high-speed runs can still experience them out West. I also think those days are coming to an end.

Don't recall seeing anything like that in the year that I ran. The craziest car was a tube-frame track car, that was questionably street legal. Everyone else in the event was competing for second place.

Since I was the only person on our team that regularly drove a manual transmission and could launch from the line, I was the designated driver at the two bracket drag strip events. Missed making the quarterfinals by 0.001 seconds to a 911 at the first one, and drew the above-mentioned tube frame race car in the first round at the second drag strip. I was really looking forward to taking him out of that event, and having an awesome picture staged next to him at the starting tree for our sponsors. Sadly, it started to rain just as the racing was about to start, and Brock decided to cancel the drags for safety reasons.

There was a hush-hush unofficial betting pool among the teams for who would score the highest and most speeding tickets during the week. The winner was over a buck forty MPH, and one woman driver racked up something like 17 tickets. We were not participating in the pool.....

You can tell it's the end of the budget year and Officers still have to go out.

I get to hear a lot of stories from my LEO friends. No gas money, no tire money etc...

NYPD lost a 31-year-old officer earlier this week. He approached a car illegally parked in a bus stop, and was shot in the gut below his vest. The two occupants of the car were poster child examples of catch-and-release, and now a wife, young son, and the entire NYPD LEO family have to mourn.....
