The Best European Rental [video]

Rented a 116i from Sixt and had a great time. Thanks to everyone on the boards that helped me reserving. The key is to call in advance and tell them to note down that you want the bmw 1 series

Really wish we got this car in the US, it would make for such a good DD

Rented one before. I agree, it was sweet. You can rent an M2 or M3 in 6MT with enough notice from Sixt, usually before July/Aug.

Saw they had an M3 but did not know they had 6MT ones. Good to know

Yes, you just need to rent them well in advance, like 2-3 months.

A bit surprised seeing people get so excited about a 116i. Who knows, maybe the Europeans visiting the US make similar videos when they rent a V6 Mustang.

The point is the M3 comes with a better HVAC, but the M3 CS Is downgraded to this one! I wondered where it came from!

You can get a low end 3 Series - a 316/318i or 316/318d, and perhaps even in higher level trim depending on region - with the single zone climate control system seen in the CS. Technically, that is where it comes from. Yes, the 1 Series shares many parts with the 3 Series, so it might also use the same part too, but my point is that you never needed to look further than the familiar 3 Series that the M3 and M3 CS evolve from to see where that HVAC system was borrowed from.

We don't get those cars here, which is why I had never seen it.

No doubt, just like we don’t get the 1 Series here either. Not faulting you for not knowing about it.

My point was only to say that, just like many other parts on an M3, this was simply borrowed from the 3 Series on which it’s based. BMW didn’t actually have to reach across model lines to the 1 Series, they just used the part already designed to fit the 3 Series, which of course snaps right into the M3 dash/console too. A very cheap and easy solution.
