Yes, they officially used two million dollar missiles to down a weather balloon. It took two shots. Apparently, the balloon put up a fight. I still go with my theory that we humans are freaks in the universe. If other planets were on the same evolution track when the dinosaurs on Earth went extinct, they evolved into intelligent beings as cold-blooded reptiles and have a million year head-start on us warm-blooded humans. This is why they are way more advanced than us, and find us interesting to study.....

I think we're better off not knowing until it touches us directly. The reason is simple; if an extraterrestrial being/civilization is advanced enough to visit another planet, then they posses technology we aren't capable of defending against.
