Motor Trend: 2020 Porsche Taycan Turbo S First Test

The only electric car I want. Of course, I certainly can't swing $200K, but if I could! |

Road tests I've read so far put it behind the Tesla Model S. I'd wait a bit for Porsche to do their inevitable improvements to it.

And one thing Car & Driver doesn't take into consideration is that price is not a factor when it comes to the clientele that buy Porsche's. They have the money to do so and they will sell every last one of them. |

Exactly. Those who can afford a Taycan will not cross shop a Tesla. Much like anyone who can afford a 911 Carrera will not cross shop with a Subaru BRZ.
Whoever would owns a Taycan because of gas savings? But for that price there are lots of juicy ICE sports car that I would likely pick first and with the savings pick up a Panamera Hybrid. It still left the Tesla Model S behind at the 'Ring. Last edited by Gamb1t; 03-31-2020 at 06:43 PM.. |

I've driven it, I found it to be generally ok but lacking in a few major areas in regards to handling, engagement and efficiency, with the biggest problem being the very high price for very little in return. I'm definitely interested to see the future of Porsche EV's, however right now, there are a bunch of other vehicles, and even a few Porsche's I would rather have than a Taycan for the price.

To me the Taycan is akin to a Chanel fanny pack. It might be the best if it's type available, but I'm still not interested.

I'm almost certain it's limited to those who live in flyover states, but the internet's perception of the Tesla demographic is quite far from reality. |

Everyone is high fiving themselves about a a new performance sedan that costs $200,000 beating an eight year old (design) sedan with a performance version that costs $135,000. I get that they're both electric cars that go fast, but uhhh....

Porsche Taycan is cool and all, but for the price of 1 lightly optioned Taycan Turbo/Turbo S, I could buy a Model 3 Performance and Cayman/Boxster GTS 4.0 (or even GT4/Spyder) and still get the best of both worlds.
