Would You Want to See an X5 Pickup Take on the Mercedes X?

Would you Want to See a X5 Pickup Take on the Mercedes X?

COMMENTS

BMW, Audi and Mercedes tend to play a copycat game when it comes to new niches and models. With Mercedes having announced its upcoming X Class pickup truck, is it possible that BMW follows suit at some point?

If it were based on the current X5 (F15), these renderings below are what it would resemble. BMW hasn't indicated any plans for a pickup, but last Summer BMW's Australian Marketing Manager Marc Werner did go on record with the statement: "Never say never," ... "We're watching the space closely" when asked about a potential BMW pickup. Most likely he was just having some fun with the press... or was he?

Even if BMW never officially produces a pickup truck for sale, they have made some fun one-off projects in the past. In 2011, BMW pulled the wraps off an one-off E92 M3 based pickup truck. And in 2013, an Australian BMW dealership chopped up a first gen X5 to create a mini X5 Ute.

So what say you -- would you like to see a BMW make a pickup model to take take on the Mercedes X Class?

Mercedes will have a huge success with its X Class.
BMW keeps trying with a 6 GT now. Another fail....

I'd drive the heck out of the E92 M3 but otherwise I'll pass.

I like the E92 M3 based version. Looks like an old school Ranchero/El Camino!

I don't know if a BMW truck would even be a good idea. I don't think they would sell very well.

And did anyone else notice that the first picture is just a Ford Raptor with a X5 nose on it. Seems lazy to me.

Seriously the dumbest thing I've seen all year so far. Is everyone getting bored in the executive meetings?

No. But not like my opinion matters. BMW has proven that if they think it will sell to well, anyone, they'll make it.

BMW needs to make the X5 pickup like it needed to make the 2AT/1 FWD and the literal FLEET of X series vans.

I mean I'd never buy one so.. I feel ignorant judging a car I'd never own. Which is why I keep to myself about the 2 active tourer or whatever. But if BMW sees a market they will enter it.

The sad thing is, that I love BMW but the raptor looks better to me.
