So many great hotels around the world, hard to pick just 1. For 2020, we spent 4 nights at Tickle Pink in Carmel, CA. We stayed in room 30. Best location on the property, and I would highly recommend asking for this room if you stay. They have breakfast delivered to your room every morning, wine hour every night up on the patio with small snacks, and offer room service for charcuterie and a decent wine list. All of those things are good, but not spectacular. When you pair it with the view and comfort of the suite make it very hard to beat IMO. It had the nicest Duvet cover I have ever felt. Super comfy. 5 stars from me.

My favorite for 2019 was the Empress in Victoria. Iconic. I'm actually a bit surprised this one has not been mentioned. It's Afternoon Tea at the Fairmont. C'mon... The bar had fantastic cocktails. They had a house dog named Winston, a Golden Lab to greet guests. We had our oldest son with us, so got a suite. If you look at the first pic, the top two gable end dormers with windows at the top right of the pic was our suite. The view was incredible at night. Stellar.

25 Years of USAF as a flight crew, I have gotten spoiled. I have stayed in places that dead people stay aka a morgue and places the President of the United States has stayed aka a few floors away. Banner Missions were great for that reason. I am still have my Marriott Black card for lifetime as well as my Sheraton. Thanks USAF for a life of travel, wished I at some point we would go to Antarctica but C-5B's at the time did not go there.

We walked across the Empress grounds when our ship stopped by Victoria in 2018 from Alaskan cruise. Only got a day there but we enjoyed the city.

Have always wanted to stay there but could never justify the price premium vs the other nice hotels on Victoria Island. And when they removed the tiger from the Bengal Lounge...

Agreed and understood. It was an experience that we felt we could justify on that trip. Worth every penny to us.

Yeah, to this point it would be cool if y'all gave ballpark numbers on what these cost because I have a feeling I can't afford most of them (especially the OP's picks).

And Four Seasons Resort Wailea, where I haven’t been in 21 years, but still think it’s the nicest place I’ve ever stayed.

For something closer to reasonably priced for a regular vacation on the mainland, we really like the Grand Bohemian in Asheville.
