F1 2022: Brazilian GP - São Paulo (Nov 13)

When was the track built?

Building work began on what ended up being called the Autodromo Jose Carlos Pace – but what is more commonly referred to as Interlagos – all the way back in 1938. The track designers took their inspiration from three main circuits: Brooklands in the UK, Roosevelt Raceway in the USA and Montlhery in France.

When was its first Grand Prix?

Buoyed by the success of Brazil’s Emerson Fittipaldi, Formula 1 first jetted into Interlagos for a world championship race in 1973. Fans were treated to a home win in the first three Brazilian Grands Prix, with Fittipaldi victorious in 1973 and 1974, while Carlos Pace won in 1975.
What’s the circuit like?

Like many pre-World War II tracks, Interlagos features banked corners, with the drivers beginning their lap on a sort of half oval – in fact, between 1957 and the track’s return to the F1 calendar in 1990, Interlagos could be run as a giant oval. After wiggling through the Senna S and down to Turn 4, the drivers then go through a snaking in-field section with some challenging camber changes, before slinging back up the hill and through the banked final turn.

Why go?

A carnival atmosphere really does dominate in Brazil, and watching Formula 1 cars alongside the locals is something every F1 fan should experience. True, it doesn’t look like there’ll be a local driver to cheer on any time soon, but that won’t stop the party at Interlagos.

Where is the best place to watch?

Because of the bowl-like nature of the track, a place in Grandstand A on the banked entry to the start-finish straight will give you a double whammy of views, allowing you to see the cars winding through the infield section and then passing underneath you. On the other end of the straight, Grandstand M will put you on top of the first corner and the Senna S, the best spot to watch overtakes on the track.

One of the greatest F1 tracks of all time.

I expect a big drop off in performance for Mercedes here - the Mexican air density really "hid" how draggy their car is.

I think Max and LeClerc will battle here again and Max should take the 15th win of the season here.

Another torpedo in the Merc hull coming up for the Brazil nuts, their ship is listing big time and they are continuing with the same 'maxi skirt' design for '23. Maybe Suzie should take over from Toto for a bit as he's convinced this is the way to go

In this (Dutch) article they say : 'Mercedes will copy the entire Red Bull RB18 car for the 2023' season (sidepods included)
=> https://www.gptoday.net/nl/nieuws/f1...eren-voor-2023

Can not wait to see that !

I feel like most teams will follow the RB18 design fundamentally with some inspiration from F1-75

Sure , they can try it . But make it work like it should be , then they need A.Newey .

As for Mercedes : They buy the (secret) necessary information from the FIA to make it work .
The bouncing (purpoising) was suddenly gone when the information was leaked , and in the last 2 races the Mercs are faster too !
In other words : Wolff has some (female) friends at the FIA ...

1-First he tried to take the Red Bull team down , by the budget cap BS .
2-With the bought FIA information , he makes his Mercs faster .

IMHO. This is corruption and a shame for motorsports !

That's the nice thing about RBPT and their breakup with Renault. They now have a car designed around their own engine and aero will be influenced by their design/shape.

Racing Point did it with the Merc and while they did get a lot faster, they still were in the mid-field mix.

Horner has called for an investigation into how the top secret info was let out of Fia about RB's budget cap overspend and was leaked to other teams.

She's certainly 100% in the information loop. She was also present in a closed meeting with Horner and Ben Sulayem just before the news that RB signed the ABA.
I'd sure like to know what was said in that meeting

Regarding São Paulo: that is always a spectacular race. I'm sure this year's top 5 will be different than last years...

My prediction:
1. VER
2. LEC
3. SAI
4. HAM
5. PER
6. ALO
7. RUS
8. NOR
9. STR
10. OCO

Regarding MERC going to copy the RB next year....
I thought Toto assured us that they are convinced their minimal sidepod design works and that they believe in it?
We all know Toto never breaks his word......

Yes , Horner Isn't happy about the fact that the FIA Isn't started yet with an investigation from where the leak actually came from .
At the FIA they won't need to look far from where the leak came ..

BTW : It was more than once ...

Exactly ! She's the mole ..

She's the FIA Secretary-General for Motor Sport , and she has "THE" access ..

From a Dutch article :
(Translated)
Rao hits back to the Red Bull team boss. She insists that the changes are there for safety: "What would happen if we didn't intervene when safety is at stake?

In other words : She leaked information ,of how Mercedes could stop the extreme bouncing (porpoising) before HAM's back was completely broken .
Wolff said further : Lewis can get brain damage from the bouncing .

It's incredible , she's still employed at the FIA !
