The Backstory to BMW Classic and Nelson Piquet Jr's Iconic Cars Run in the Alps
July 25th, 2016 Timmelsjoch, Austria. Imagine it's your 31st birthday and your girlfriend plans a surprise for you. Imagine you are a up in coming race car driver. Imagine your father was a very famous F1 race car driver. Imagine the car company he drove for is celebrating their 100th birthday this year. Imagine one of Europe's most beautiful alpine toll roads is closed down for a day(Timmelsjoch near Sölden, Austria). Your name is: Nelson Piquet junior. This isn't a dream, it's real life. Nelson Piquet junior's girlfriend(Virgilia Landrain) contacted BMW AG and set up a little birthday surprise for him. On July 25, Nelson turned thirty one years old. BMW loved the idea and sprung into action. BMW Classic team brought along some interesting birthday toys for the day's event up on the Timmelsjoch. Even a few car's his father drove. The entire event was a surprise for Nelson. His girlfriend only told him where they needed to be bright and early(6am) last week(Thursday) and that he needed to bring his helmet and driving suit. Man, WHAT a girlfriend ehh ? Bellow are some pictures from Auto Motor und Sport. They also have a cool video on their website - which I will leave a link too bellow. In typical fashion... the weather up at the Timmelsjoch was a total mix of rain/snow/sunshine - yes even in July! I think this was pretty darn cool of BMW AG and his GF to arrange for this event for Nelson Jr. Also for the people at the Timmelsjoch Pass to close down the road for a day - while Nelson got to play/drive/sample these awesome race toys!!! Btw... many of you might recognize the Timmelsjoch Hochalpenstrasse from the last few James Bond films. They were filmed here. Its an awesome road - I highly recommend it for any ED adventure. Enjoy, Dackel Timmelsjoch Hochalpenstrasse AG - the door to the South... Nelsen's GF taking a "selfie". As promised here is the video link to AMS... scroll down to the video(just above the 635i text)... http://www.auto-motor-und-sport.de/n...-11502234.html

Fantastic. Nelsinho not only has a superfamous father but also a Dutch/Frisian Mother. I only have a Dutch Frisian mother and not a superfamous father lol
Cheers Robin

It has changed a lot since the last time I was there in August 2014. Just an little Imbiss and some simple toll booths.
Don't know if the other three fancying the motormuseum, but stopping for drink and a bite before crossing, we'll definitely do. |

I'm not sure how I missed this thread but thank you very much for sharing.
What a birthday gift. Piquet senior's footprint will forever have its mark in BMW history and this is a great homage to that legacy, well done.
