When it comes in 100% Electric guise it might be a serious consideration.

If only they made a Mazda 3 with Miata innards. Yeah, less hours than a 2 series. Whatever. Fun, rwd small SEDAN. Americans haven't gotten appreciably taller in the last 20 years, have they?

Nope. I'm 6'2" and fit fine in my previous Miata and M Coupe. Even wedged a 6'8" German colleague into the M Coupe for a quick trip. Small cars are the best.

Hopefully the SkyActiv X is better than the 2.5L. That motor is terrible. Had a five door, manual Mazda 3 S GT.

I hope to never buy any car with a transverse front mounted engine but if I had to with my own money, you're spot on.

This x10000. I will never purchase a vehicle with a transverse mounted engine, unless I absolutely have to for some reason.

I'd love to see Mazda return the MazdaSpeed 3 to the US, the new one is really good, but too slow for my liking. Although, I've sat in the interior and it honestly puts a lot of compact and even midsize sedans to shame, not just in design but also in materials quality, honestly Mazda's changed so much in such a small amount of time.

Agreed. My 16 had some nicer materials than our F30 and the new one really seems a good bit nicer.

I never liked the MS3, they were 400 pounds heavier than the regular 3 and just had laughable torque steer. But tuned with proper brakes, they were pretty impressive.

What about an Audi S3? That's transverse mounted and AWD.

Still a Haldex setup that runs around 10% to the rear normally with a max of 50% under slip. Same is true for the RS3 and that's better than a CLA45 or others.

Interesting. I thought the RS3 was a great handling car that could send 100% to the rear wheels if needed. I also love that 5 cylinder engine but the car is waaaaay too small.

Love the size, but wish it had the longitudinal motor do the similarly sized B5 A4/S4.

In real life both generations feel like a front wheel drive car that just has a lot of grip in a straight line. The A45 is the same. Having access to all of them here in NZ...the M140i is the only decent hatchback/small sedan out there if you like driving. And it's basically dead now

Ergonomically, I can't egress/ingress from an A3/S3/RS3 w/o bumping my head on the door frame.

For reference, I have heel-to-waist dimensions of a six footer and a short torso of a 5-5 person, with a total height of 5-8.

As much as I want BMW to make an M2gc, maybe the added two doors might make it incompatible for me. Theoretically, the extra two doors would make access to the belly of the car easier for me. Accessing the midsection of my 135's are a pain in the azimuth.

So, FWD and no Manual option?

Seriously, what's the point 🤔

I'd almost get an Accord Sport in a 6-speed.....but, they are to damn ugly 🤣

I've driven an Audi and It still feels like a fwd based vehicle; I'm convinced you can't hide that feeling.

I owned fwd vehicles while pursuing higher education due to budget restraints, which was a complete bummer. Now I have a moral code that prevents me from purchasing vehicles that have the engine facing the wrong direction.

Amen! I feel the same!

However, I drove an 09 6 speed GTI for 5 years and it was the best handling FWD car I've ever owned.

Has the lack of a manual option for the USA been positively confirmed, or is this all just speculation? UK and Europe will certainly get a manual in this platform.
