Pituitary Gland Issues

Anyone ever had issues with it? Went to the doc for some un-related (rash and tired) issues and it took me down the rabbit hole of things being worse and worse. (needed 3 meds for the "rash" alone). Was told I needed Testosterone replacement treatment since the blood came back so low. Everything else looked good except very low vit D.

To start T treatment they like to check the Pituitary just to be safe (for the rare occasion it isn't)...well mine came back pretty low functioning. Now I'm most likely looking at an MRI to make sure it's not a tumor. Hopefully it's just naturally low but now I won't be a candidate for the T replacement since it will lower it more. I'll find out tomorrow what the course will be. Might explain why my one eye has started to get blurry over the last few months.

Anyone ever have this problem?

How low is low? Low towards the bottom of the reference range for labs may be completely normal for you. Sounds like they just want to bill as much as possible, and they don't care how bumpy a ride it is for you while they do it.

Honestly, I’d talk to another doctor before doing anything.

Sometimes, there is a growth on the pituitary that can cause the issue. MRI is a must. You didn't mention your age, but as we get older, our nutrient needs change because our GI bacteria change. I'd bet money your B vitamins are low as they are in many adults. Primarily B-6 which is pyridoxine. I often see that with older people with rashes.

35 1.1 is the level, feel exhausted all the time, do get headaches often and my vision has been getting slightly blurry in the right eye. The Doc actually boosted me up with a B12 shot and it has helped a bit.

Quite a bit past the lowest ref point for the lab. This place is the most fair doc office I've been too and the 1st to actually listen to my issues. I self pay and they always make sure I'm good before doing anything.

Those are symptoms that can be seen when you have a tumor of the pituitary gland that is big enough to compress your eye nerves as the pituitary gland sits immediately below where the eye nerves cross. Fortunately most of the tumors are non-cancerous.

Don't worry until there really is something to worry about. I know, easier said than done, but it's a must as we get older.

My suggestion is to wait for further tests and results before you start thinking of the worst. Blurry vision can be caused by a few things. Are you diabetic? Has macular degeneration been explored?

I’m sure your doctor will guide you appropriately.

Blood test came back today and it looked good! Shouldn't have a tumor but the Dr said having kids is a no go with out a bunch of meds...which is fine by us not having any.

I'm an MD

I'm sure the Doc checked two early morning Testosterone levels to make the diagnosis. They image the pituitary and check other lab values like TSH, Prolactin, etc. to get an idea of how the gland is functioning and whether there is a tumor for example. Another source of low Testosterone is dysfunction of the gonads themselves.

Hope that helps give some clarity.

It's not about billing so the Doc enriches him/herself, it's about how evidence based Medicine. When abnormalities are found on testing and the patient has clinical symptoms, it has to be pursued further. I'm sure OP has been seeing an Endocrinologist who has been doing this for years.

You got it. The TSH came back bad along with two bad T levels. Prolactin came back normal luckily. He spouted off tons of other stuff, this Dr. Specializes in men's health and has an absolute passion for it. I feel in good hands for once.

Thanks for the reply. I looked into that and I don't have the symptoms of it.

Doesn't sound like he has been referred for an Endocrinology opinion.

Agree 1000% that he should.

And the MRI is also a must for eye problems with a low T.

AND an ophthalmologist for field testing.

I wouldn't go by ANY of what you learned thru Googling it. 98% of those symptoms and pictures are way distorted.

The only way to exactly know is thru an endocronologist by a blood test - " karotype "

Something is wrong with your HPTA which doesn't necessarily have to be a tumor.

On the plus side, if you have low test - TRT is going to improve your life physically and mentally by 100000000000000000000000000000000000%

As soon as my test levels are identical to a liberal arts major, I'm getting right on that wagon.

Get the MRI. Don't stop at Google, get the scan ASAP. Either it will be massivly reassuring and you can proceed to google to your heart's content, or not and you caught something early. The stop at the endocrinologist office is also highly recommended - they actually graduated from medical school, unlike most of the authors of those online articles.
