To make it clearer: It's indeed the Groups branch "Recaro Automotive Seating". A full three months after the licensing Recaro Group announced a 25 percent increase in sales from 2022 to 2023. The entire company also expected similar growth for 2024. This outlook apparently does not include the automotive supplier’s automotive division.

AFAIK all seats of BMWs are manufactured already by the BMW in-house. It is said that Automotive Seating has been long time focused nearly totally on the aftermarket business, at least as cars are concerned.

Their larger business seems to be in bus seating.
AFAIK, BMW hasn't used Recaros in cars since around 1985 or so, though I do love mine.
They'll be okay. When was the last time you heard of ReCaro making bodies for Porsche cars? Bought out by Porsche around 1962, they still survived, mostly with their seat products.

Not that surprised. The number of vehicles coming to actual recaro seats has dropped off quite a bit lately. Everyone is using sport seats but the brand name doesn't seem to add the value that they thought it did. Their aftermarket offerings are hugely expensive compared to rivals.

I suspect their valuable assets will be reorganized or sold off for reuse.

Most seat manufacturing it outsourced.to companies like Lear and several others.

The F82 M4 GTS came with Recaro Pole Positions, and the new G-series carbon seat is Recaro.

Made by recaro, or licensed the name recaro? That's kinda the crux.of the whole issue with recaro I think.

IF "Recaro", then indeed "only" licensed.
"In seat production, we make all seats for the vehicles produced at the Munich vehicle plant – several hundred different types in total."

Double Trouble: Recaro and BBS File for Bankruptcy
30 July 2024
Legendary wheel manufacturer BBS has also filed for insolvency proceedings at the Rottweil Local Court, according to Motor1. This isn’t the first time the beloved wheel manufacturer has found itself in turbulent straits—or even the second: BBS has faced financial crises four other times since 2000.

Huh, both companies working with the German Metalworkers union that BMW built it's plant in the US specifically to get away from....

Nah, can't be related.

I mean, if you're making someone else's design, then it doesn't really matter. BMW didn't come up with the design.

Sucks, but it's not going to have an impact on how we enjoy their products.

Recaro and BBS are brands I'll proudly rock until the day I die. I don't even consider any alternatives.

My local Recaro distributor confirmed that it is only Recaro Automotive Germany that is filing for bankruptcy. Recaro USA and Japan are not affected and are business as usual.

Do we know that? A lot of times companies like recaro pull a Bose and just license their name out with limited or no involvement in the design or performance. Sometimes they'll license a name and have a totally separate subcontractor build things.

Unless BMW has changed suppliers recently their seats are produced by Lear.

it's BBS gmbh, they make the lower-end cast wheels. BBS Japan makes the forged wheels and is a separate company. The last time BBS gmbh filed for bankruptcy, BBS japan released the following statement and i would think it still applies if they do it again https://bbs-japan.co.jp/en/wp-conten...o_GmbH_eng.pdf

I don't know the process for every manufacturer, but I know that for the Nissan Juke and 370Z NISMO cars Recaro ships parts to Nissan to use. The Juke's seat is literally a Sportster CS, but the 370Z's seat is highly modified, the entire bottom being different. When disassembled they say RECARO right on the parts. Not sure if it works that way for all manufacturers though. I know the M4 GTS Pole Position is unmodified with regards to the structure, but I can't say who covers the seat with material.

I have genuinely never understood the hype around BBS rims.

Way back when, they were the only game in town and OEM on a lot of Bimmers.

Some people get it, some people don't.

I myself have reached a point in my life where I don't even consider other options. It's BBS or nothing.
