Harsh shifting even harsher down shifting

I purchased a 2001 530i with a blown motor. Replaced it with a used one out of 2003. Runs great, but shifting is hard and when coming to a stop it seems bad from 3rd to 2nd and 2nd to 1st. I used a redline transmission fluid to top off what was needed during the engine swap. Could it of lost memory on shifting? The owner said it didn't shift like this before the motor died. Any thoughts? No check engine lights on yet either.
