This is basically bmw design trying to save face and justify their decision on the kidney grille design. They are fully aware of the backlash it's created. I give it 2 years before it's revised in some shape or form.

The new 4 series grill is so bad BMW has to keep spending money on PR to try to justify it.

Ok, let's get one thing out of the way. Reviewing all of these grilles makes it quite obvious that proportion was important. They all look like they fit, relative to the vehicle. The new grilles do not. Advertising does not improve a lackluster product or design. It only helps a good product/design.

Exactly another thing they do is capture the car from its rear end for all ads and marketing materials

7 series sedan is the least integrated and least appealing to me and the G20 isn't great, either. 4 series grill still works for me.

To preemptively paraphrase Jeremy Clarkson...More evolution in the last ten years than in the previous 100. We must show you the evolution because we haven't styled it properly, we have no interesting ideas and therefore we must tell you it's an evolution to justify our massive dental charges.

You know its bad when you have to explain your reasoning for implementing a design decision. This article makes it even worse when you realize the mess of different grille designs on the current lineup.

BMW should fire both their designers AND their PR department at this point

Am not a fan of g20 grille and certainly not a fan of g22. The 8 is the best they've ever done and should've designed the entire line up around the 8. It's by far the most aggressive and classiest without being ridiculous. Bmw thinks they're being controversial and inspiring debate about these new 10 foot tall grilles. They're just being laughed at.

I feel really bad for the people who are going to be driving around the new g22 and new m3/4.

Tired of this propaganda about how the 4 series grill is a natural evolution or return to roots. It just plain doesn't look good.

Noticed they skipped the e46 3er in there...

IMO late model e46's had the classiest grills.
Sporty yet elegant and absolutely timeless.

Apparently Domagoj Dukec was a big Dune fan- spitting image of the 4. Anyway are they going to publish this little article and place it on the passenger seat to help test-drivers "understand" the place in history this utter joke of a front-end sits? I've never seen a company work so hard to justify shitty design.

They're trying really hard to justify the awful interpretation of vertical kidneys.

How about they give us explanation as to why they're getting rid of the Hofmeister Kink?

Stick a fish hook in the grill of the 4Series and it will make the cover of Sport Fishing. magazine.
