1. Also, coupé. a closed, two-door car shorter than a sedan of the same model.
2. coupé (defs. 1–3).
[Origin: 1880–85; see coupé]

More to do with the frameless windows and 2+2 seating actually.

Wikipedia's dissertation trumps any single sentence dictionary definition.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coupe

Cayman has 2 doors and 2 seats so it's easily a coupe.

what about your 2+2 scenario...and wikipedia doesn't count. then fools like you who think they know something can log in and modify it to whatever you want? did you go to college? did they let you use wikipedia as a reference there? cause in real college they dont.

2+2 only comes into play if there aren't 2 seats as in the Continental GT's case.

Someone beat me to it, the CLS is a 4 dr Coupe, not a Sedan.

Personally, I love the CLS look.

Honestly, seems kind of slow for 700+ HP. We used to hit 190ish on Superbikes in much less distance than it took them, and a car has superior high speed aerodynamics.

The original "coupe" classification involves the shape of the roofline.

In the modern era, the coupe-style roofline is properly implemented in cars accommodating only two doors. That is how "coupe" is now formally synonymous with "two doors". However, in the original definition it is possible for there to be 2 door sedans and 4 door coupes. Mercedes is doing it's part to bring retro full circle.
