Like all things in life.....time will tell. $49k is indeed the base price and the base model is loaded. $65k is the MSRP on the fully loaded 3.5T Advanced models. Once the new wears off and the crazies have left the building paying whatever the dealer mark up is.....we'll see. I agree though, they probably won't be as successful as people think. From MY vantage point they're going to be much more successful then people think!
I had genesis quote me a base model, low as you can go, of the GV80 and they were marking it up $12k, came out to $61k. It was nice, but that was tough to swallow.

Made it home finally, 11hrs and a shit load of rain later. Didn't know but that telluride will almost drive on it's own, nice little feature. Ride was comfortable throughout, and I moved like a bat out of hell through then rain. About a 700mile trip.

Glad you made it home safely!

Yeah, I expected the GV80 to be marked up like mad out of the gate. That seems excessive, we will see if people pay the premium. Eventually, it will come back down to reality.

I hope you 2 enjoy the new ride! It is a beauty!

How did her choice go from Porsche, Jaguar, and Mercedes to a Kia? (Didn't read the whole thread)

That would be a huge mistake for Genesis. An essentially new luxury brand has to start off with a bang. If the dealers mark up the cars above MSRP, they will lose, probably forever, future buyers for a short term profit.

I for one will never shop at a dealership that does this.

Haha great question, small models of those vehicles were swingable, once we decided on a large vehicle those brands became relatively out of budget. Not saying I couldn't, but at this stage of the game it wouldn't be the financially responsible move for us.

I don't disagree with this sentiment. Although I've owned 2 Genny's and am a believer in their ability to produce a solid luxury vehicle. But...everyone seems to do this with their models that are perceived as being "hot" at their release. Honda dealers did it with the Type R...BMW....Mercedes....KIA now. I'm having a hard time thinking of any manufacturers who's dealers DON'T fall into this practice honestly. Except for Tesla that is. But if they had a traditional dealer network I'd venture to guess it would be the same song there too. I'm not a fan of the practice and can't ever see myself partaking in paying over MSRP, just like you. I find it hard to believe Genesis will be hurt by the practice, but again, time will tell, you could be correct.

My opinion on this is that those are well established brands doing it and basically just on highly desired limited production cars. Not a run of the mill luxury car that hasn’t proven itself. I think Kia tried that with the Stinger and it didn’t pay off well. I don’t see or hear about them very much at all.

I have less of a problem with the dealer doing it and more of a problem with the vehicle not being worth it. When a dealer marks up a car above MSRP it is simple to see it, nothing hidden, and it's just a choice on whether the vehicle is worth it or not. I don't understand the logic in a vehicle that is selling for less than MSRP must be a better deal than a different vehicle selling above MSRP, to me it depends on the vehicles and what I would get for the money.

A base Genesis 4 cylinder, rwd SUV (??), in my mind not close to being worth $62k.

To the OP- interested in how you like the Kia. Especially comparing it to some of the other things you test drove (more of the luxury marquees).

So far we love it. Drives very smooth, cabin noise is slight to none as they use noise damping glass, transmission is nice and smooth as well. Her CX-5 transmission was jerky in traffic which was annoying to me. Infotainment system works well, and there are still a lot of functions we are figuring out. It has remote start/stop, you can even set you're calendar for specific days and times to start.

To compare to the luxury market - The seats are quite nice, with that said they do not compare to that of mercedes or the genesis, etc. Now we do not have the most upgraded seats they offer, I believe they offer Nappa Leather in the SX models that I did not get a chance to sit in. I really have no complaints as to how it drives, with that said luxury model suspensions do seem a little more plush as compared to the telluride. Don't get me wrong, the ride is still quite nice, just not as dampening. It doesn't have some of the more modern features like heads-up display, interior ambient lighting, etc. But it has everything I would want for my fiance, blind spot monitoring, lane departure assists, even follows the lanes on the highway by itsself as long as you have your hands on the wheel. Dual sunroof would be nice, again believe this is offered on the SX model.

Engine - I am actually a fan of this engine. Peppy enough when you want it to be, and does solid on gas. On our 700 mile trip home, we averaged 27mpg. Roughly 28 or so through DC/VA in some light traffic, and around 26mpg cruising at 80mph down south. And it seems to pair well with the transmission, again no clunkyness, everything meshes well.

As I get the opportunity to drive the car more I can provide more information, fiance has been hogging it so far this week lol.

OP good move on not paying MSRP for this thing. Did you end up getting it for MSRP?
I got my launch F80 $2k under msrp.

I cant get a Telluride SX in Atlanta for MSRP. Just sayin.

Also funny to see people on a BMW forum knocking other brands for falling apart and depreciating...

Yeah good luck man, I searched Atlanta high and low, and all I found was mark-ups.

They are low production. (On purpose by Kia)
They drive really well for the price. In my recent test drives the only thing better was a Cayenne and an X5. Both much more expensive.
They are sharp as hell.

When it comes to actual sales numbers they are mid pack, not sure the demand is really that high in the big picture, just compared to supply. Toyota sold almost four times as many Highlanders in Q4 over twice as many 4Runners.

I doubt they are purposely limiting supply as I don't see you benefit from it in the long run. Kia sells them to the dealer at a set price, demand drops over time.

When it comes to sales numbers for Q4 2020 it was mid pack (some don't seem to have reported yet) - https://www.goodcarbadcar.net/2020-u...sales-figures/

I was able to get 12% off + work incentive on the x5 so around $725 a month for a $74k build.

I am interested in seeing the link as I am surprised. Also interested in hearing how this helps their business overall. It will help resale some but as many on this forum said they find the idea of paying over MSRP gouging by the dealer and wouldn't consider it and would go somewhere else.

I also wonder if this is marketing or reality "buy it now as we are limiting supply".

Kia/Hyundai/Genesis also sell many of their vehicles for far under MSRP so I wonder why they limited supply on this one. I looked at pricing on a Kia Stinger and it seems to sell well under MSRP.

Nice. I got mine in 2015 for under MSRP too but people were willing to pay markup at the time.
