I Need A Really Good Lawyer
Around midnight last night I was driving home at a pretty good pace with my girlfriend following in her car a little way behind me. When I reached our apartment building, I pulled into the driveway and waited for a couple of minutes for her to pull up behind me so that I could open the gate and let her in as well as myself.
To my surprise, the police showed up behind me instead! They didn't have any blue and reds on, but they told me that they had been following me for a few blocks with lights on and "Why didn't I stop?" I told them that I did not honestly see them, otherwise I would have stopped. So they asked me to get out of the car, put my hands behind my back, and then they proceeded to empty my pockets and put everything on top of the car. They asked if I had any drugs, which I did not. They then told me that I was driving very fast and they need to keep the streets safe. They told me they had me at 80mph and they proceeded to walk me to their patrol car and they put me in the back. Then they searched the car and the trunk, which I did not give them permission to do, and couldn't do much to stop them since I was locked in their car. I was asked to sign a ticket, to which I asked what it was for. Their answer was, "Do you want to go to jail? Shut up and sign the ticket." "What is it for though?", I asked. Mind you, I couldn't see in the dark, and they wouldn't shine the flashlight on it so I could see it. The officer proceeded with, "Shut up. I'm going to take you to jail in 5, 4, 3..." So I signed it, and asked again what it was for. They then told me the ticket was for unsafe speed, no front license plate, and tinted windows. They said that it was for going 65mph, and "If I would have read it, I would have known." So the bottom line is: The front windows were down the whole time. The ticket does not have any speed information whatsoever on it. They didn't clock me or pace me, and we all knew it. They went into my pockets without any consent or reason, as well as going through my car with no consent. I feel that I have the right to know what the ticket is for, and being bullied for asking a question is not appropriate. I would like to contest the ticket, and also want to sue for misconduct. Does anyone know if I have a case? This is 100% on principle at this point. If anyone is or knows a good lawyer in the Los Angeles/Beverly Hills area, I would love to get in touch. Thanks in advance for any insight! |

I don't like cops for this pencil dick kind of crap. They think they are Gods.
Lawdude is a member on here...pm? I was in back of a cop car handcuffed in college for PI. As he was driving me to jail I asked if he would pull over and I could maybe walk home.... ...he reached back and cracked me right in the jaw. Changed my opinion of them right then and there.

Corrupt fucking L.A. cops misusing their authority... just look at the "Rampart Scandal."
Hearing stories like this makes me embarrassed to live in L.A. Good luck with your case!

Thanks for the support everyone.
JNic, your thread was definitely insightful...thank you. I know that I can fight the speeding ticket easily. It's such a pain in the ass though. I just need to find out if their conduct was illegal, and if it would be worth it to sue the Sheriff's department with misconduct...I want these two jerks to have a mark on their record. They were smirking and being smart asses the whole time. |

consult with an attorney about filing charges or lodging a complaint against the officer(s)
I once had a reason to complain about a cop's bad attitude. But I was concerned that if I wrote a letter for his supervisor, for his permanent record, that the crazy cop would come looking for me. I let it go. |

police officers are soulless men, they get to pass judgement no matter what the situation or the circumstances may be, in my true honest opinion the only man who can do that is God. I hate them with a fiery passion but I have to admit I have met some decent ones in the past. I recommend that you appeal your case chances are these rat bastards wont even show. All cops talk the talk but cant walk the walk

Yes, I'll definitely fight the speeding part of the ticket and will win. There is no speed even written down on the ticket! Not even an approximate speed. How can you say I was speeding and not even write down the posted speed or anything related to how fast they thought I was going?
I think that people who decide to be police officers do it because it sounds fun to chase people and shoot guns and all that crap. They don't do it to help the community. If they really wanted to help, why not be a firefighter? Cops just want to bully people and have power. They're mostly a bunch of losers that want to swing their dicks around. Pathetic. |

Honestly beats me bro.... theyre out there giving tickets to perfectly normal people trying to go about their daily lives while drug dealers, murderers, and thieves roam the streets. I truly fail to understand this concept, houses are getting robbed all around my neighborhood yet no one on our local police force has done shit. Something i wish my taxes could have been exempt on.... sigh

After you talk to a lawyer, go to the media. There are probably a bunch of people in your situation.
