Torn between 2014 Boxster S and Z51 Corvette
Hello everyone,
I am wondering if anyone has any insight on either car and perhaps they can swing me in one direction or the other...I am looking for a great convertible car, thats not a daily driver, I have already abused my BMW for that haha so the choices are either the Z51 stingray or the Boxster S with the Sport Chrono PDK. I have driven both and here are my opinions. The stingray with the Z51 had a great roar sound too it, thanks for the exhaust. It was pretty quick too, when youre driving it, hit the gas, you off. Something I feel the Boxster S lacked a bit. It was pretty quick but didnt have that roar or it didnt put that smile on your face feeling. The Boxster felt more confident on the turns and ride was more smoother and comfortable. You felt more in control in the porsche than the vette, and the PDK was sooo much better than the automatic. I will most likely get it stick if i was to go with the vette. The vette felt bigger and wider, prolly cuz of the front mount v8, but you do feel lower to the ground which I liked. The Porsche felt like go-kart. The quality of the interior is a lot nicer in the Porsche, but I love the exterior design of the vette. The Boxster is still a beautiful car. Maintenance i feel is gonna be a killer in the Porsche, but I feel the build and quality of a German car exceeds that than the American. So any other opinions or which car is better or anyone can show me to persuade me in one direction more than the other would be appreciated. I know you cant go wrong with either. Thank you |

IMO the whole point of having a convertible is for fun, and you said the Boxster didn't put a smile on your face. I think you know which you should take.

Vette and it's not even close, 7 speed manual please.
Or, if you want to save a ton of money and still get an awesome car, buy a 2006-2008 Z4M Roadster. If the power isn't enough, supercharge it for $6-8k. You want fun, and the Z4M is the most fun car I've ever had the pleasure of owning. |

Lol who voted for the auto vette? Having driven the 981, I can tell you the turn in is unreal. Z51 Vette is a good one too. Not a bad dilemma to have

I think it comes down to one point, are you looking for the faster car or the car that is fast (Boxster S still traps 111 mph), but has much better handling, feel, quality, refinement and IMO the Boxster S looks a whole lot better (more exotic looking), even though I don't think the Stingray looks terrible on the outside.
For me, as a former Cayman S owner, there isn't a car out there that will give you the feel of the mid engine layout of the Boxster or Cayman. No Corvette will match the polar moment of inertia and natural balance of a mid engined car. I even owned a Z4M Coupe ("front mid engined" if you can call it that) and that car paled in comparison to the early Cayman S, let alone the new one. |

If you don't do much canyon/mountain driving get the vett. Also have to wonder why not just get the non convertible vett the roof still comes off and you don't have that extra weight to lug around? Also I would look at a 1lz Z06 its the same price as a boxster s

shit thats tough. i voted vette, but it's honestly a coin flip.
i would never consider an automatic in a sports car.

NONE OF THE ABOVE.
Boxster S with manual. a no brainer IMO. I don't see the Corvette in the same category at all.....The Boxster is a beautifully built elite sports car...the Corvette is just a sports car. |

Have good look at the Boxster...it's flat out sexy. I can't say the same about the 'vette. I dislike the C7's looks sooo...
Performance wise, the C7 will beat the Boxster S but it's not like you'll be going to a track enough times to justify the advantage over the Boxster (I'm assuming this because you're considering a Boxster not a Cayman/911) because the Boxster S is no slouch in that department. The deal breaker for the 'vette for me was the lack of 2 boots/storage trunks lol |

2105 is a long time to wait for an auto corvette, but I'd still take the cayman.

it is....definitely. price does not create 'elite'---the driving experience and the attention to detail does.

Who mentioned price? As nice as a Boxster might be, it will never compare to a Corvette in overall performance. To call a Boxster an elite sports car is retarded.

I might be biased...
but also cost me 48k. The Cayman I wanted was around 65k If you have any specifics, let me know!

I was in a similar situation 2 years ago, it was between a 2014 Cayman s or the new C7 vette, I think the simplest answer comes down to what you do with the car. My car is almost exclusively driven to the track and occasional trip to visit my parents, other than that it rarely sees the street. For me, it had to be the precision piece, had it been more of a DD, I would have chosen the vette.
Just so you know, in the last 2 years, I've had 0 issues with the car besides routine maintenance; it didn't cost any more than my previous e92 m3. We fast forward 2 years now, and I was put in the same boat again, Z07 vs. GT4; needless to say, I continued down the same road cause the purpose hasn't changed. Figure out your purpose, it'll make it easier.
