I had another thread that was a long slow burn of track mods, but I'm resetting that as I feel like in the next few months it's going to fundamentally change from a casual slow burn to something totally different.

I'm intending to build a reliable NASA E0 endurance car, but also TT3/ST3 & BMWCCA B Mod

I started tracking the car the same year I bought it in 2010, and some years I've been able to get out on track one weekend, and other years 10-12 times. My career in the Navy is changing and I won't be doing overseas deployments anymore so it seems like it's time to get more serious and more poor.

The car just came back from fabrication at Neth Raceworks in Julian, CA. Pretty impressed with the fab design and the welding is a little out of this world. Bob Neth has a background in Baja desert trucks and does road cars too. Bimmerspeed in San Diego is doing the rest of the work.

Here is the list of everything that is done or will be over the summer here in SoCal:

MCS 2 way remote w/ 700/900 Springs
Ground control camber plates
Alcon CR6420 and CAR 4949 w/ PFC 13
Custom brake cooling backing plates
Turner solid rear subframe bushings and
Delrin diff bushings
SPL arms in the rear
Strom front uprights
Remus Race Mid Pipe
BW race exhaust
BW front and rear aero
18x10.5 BW TA-16
Core4 hubs w/ 14mm press in studs
AC delete w/ 2008MY power steering pump
Epic DME tuning
Motec PDM30
Motec C1212 dash
Custom wiring harness
Diffsonline 4.10 3 clutch diff
do88 oil cooler
CSF radiator
SPAL fan
Racetech 4199 Seat + Schroth 6 point
KMP steering wheel
Hard motorsports sedan rear door windows
BW carbon sunroof insert
BW carbon headlight inserts
Coolshirt system
Voltphreaks Li-Ion battery
Macrolon front and rear windshield
Lifeline 360 Novec fire sys

Here is the cage. Going off to paint the entire interior light gray next week:

I'm hoping to get some good seat time in the fall. I'll see you out there. I can barely crack a 1:59 with my junk.

Yup- that's where I was last spring. Some serious coaching is where I'll put what $ I have left.

Interested to see the new track layout at buttonwillow then too!

That new course is going to be a ton of fun. There are vids on YouTube of a dude driving the dirt course in a truck.
I can picture a weekend at buttonwillow like this- run cw13 one day then bbq and beers at night then running the new course the next day.

Looks like a great build so far! Some great parts choices there.

Although I'll never know how you boys in the US cope with AC delete. Even here in the UK where it is pretty much always cold, I cannot bear to be without it on a trackday!

Getting the car back from paint tomorrow to start assembly. Next big step is blueprinting out the wiring diagram and getting the harness made to play with the Motec PDM & dash and the factory DME that Epic Motorsport is tuning/tweaking.

Paint is a urethane coating from Sherwin Williams called "Genesis". Color is something close to matching Porsche's Chalk and sprayed in a satin finish.

I love it. The dash tie-in looks great.

I've been flip flopping on doing a cage or not. One thing I'm curios about is how much it helps with the rigidity of the car. Curious to hear impressions on that.

I'm also looking forward to your wiring project!

Don't know I'll have any data to back up that the chassis will be x% stiffer. But the half weld in cage I had before substantively changed how the car would get lifted up. I.e. when I lifted from the rear jack point it wouldn't take much for the whole side of the car to be off the ground. I expect that to be even more pronounced.

The front tie in I have is ok, and removable. Not as good as some of the work I've seen on E36-46. Who knows though. Not like I'll do any testing. But we have all that stuff behind the strut towers on the E90/2 it's hard to do a lot more without relocating all that stuff (brake booster, DME, etc).

If you zoom in on where the bars tie in to the trunk floor there is some metal work beneath the plates that tie into the sub frame mounting. So I expect that is pretty robust.

can we talk about the motec power distribution module? what does it actually replace? are you relocating the DME at all?

i've read a few descriptions, and it seems like you connect it to the DME and just wire power to what you want to be functional? i'd really like to get rid of some of the wires in this car.

It's the Motec PDM30.

https://www.motec.com.au/pdm30/pdm30overview/

It does the work that the fuse box did. So all that stuff won't be going back in the car. Things will be relatively simple. I am re using the factory DME and I won't be using a Motec ECU. That's another level of complexity and money (and functionality- like real Motorsport traction control).

I'll post a bunch more once I meet with the Motec guy and go through all the detail.

I'll lose the wiring on the left and be keeping most of the wiring on the right:

I'll end up with a simplified custom harness that is made to work with the Motec setup and the factory engine harness. So most everything you would have in the cabin of the car (wiring, fuse box, other random modules) is gone.

This video sort of maps out what I am doing. Except he is using a Motec ECU and I won't be:

nice. i watched the video of the guy with the drag gtr. see if they'll give us a discount if i buy one and have them do the same wiring. lol

i have a basic grasp of the concept, but i'm kinda curious about the programming thing like lights through the brake pedals and such.

I'd join the cause if it was something they'd consider.

Really appreciate what you're working on here evilspiritM3 Congrats on the build and the thorough and thoughtful approach. I think this will pay dividends long into the future.

any updates?

i also wanted to ask you if you are solid on the SPL arms and the strom uprights. i was considering both, but was told using both would be redundant and not yield any benefit.

No good updates. Waiting on the Motec guy to get back from supporting other racing to get hands on with my car.

Strom uprights aren't on yet . . . Getting the electronics set up first.

Random update:

Alcon kit is on
Strom uprights are on
Do88 Oil Cooler and CSF radiator are on

Strom uprights don't play well with the full SPL setup. So back to stock steering arms and clearance between arms is good and the nut on the end of the arm doesn't come close to the wheel barrel.

It'll get busy after we get back from the 25hr at Thunderhill. Next is wiring and Motec. Front and rear poly windshields are here. They turned out great - from racingshields.com.

Are you going to try and rework the Strom Uprights to make everything compatible?

Sucks because I have them (not installed yet), and have heard they work wonders!

Subscribed to this epic build!

Probably just going to go back to all stock arms on the front.
