Five people dead in Sydney.

This sort of shit very, very, rarely happens down here but this afternoon five poor souls lost their lives and another eight are in bad shape after being stabbed in a shopping centre in the eastern suburbs of Sydney. RIP and my heart goes out to all the families!

Just wow!

It’s now six dead!

The Police Officer who shot the perpetrator is a hero! She certainly saved more innocent people from being killed.

And that police officer is likely to suffer years of trauma from her heroic actions.

That's a different level. It also appears that he targeted women. Glad he was shot and killed by one.

Killing another human being, no matter how or why, changes people in a way that is rarely good for them or anyone around them. Sorry she had to do it.

Checking some online news sites this AM and saw the headlines. What a tragedy.

Sincere condolences to the family of the deceased and hope the injured experience a full and speedy recovery.

Big kudos to the officer who did her job to protect and serve.

So that’s the conclusion you draw from this?

What a dumb, ignorant and stupid thing to say! More importantly you were compelled to and thought it was a great idea write that shit and post it.

We have a mass killing event once every ten years or whatever it is, not every day like in the States!

A little fact for you as well; guns are not banned in my wonderful and generally very safe country. We just don’t need a semi automatic, multi round magazine, bump stoped, mass killing, firearm to kill a duck or even a kangaroo!

Societal issue.
Not a gun issue.
Too complex of an issue to address on short notice.

Condolences to the victims.

Of course there have been plenty mass shootings where 20+ people have been killed by 1 person.
Not so much with mass stabbings....

Firearms are the problem, just not the problem you're thinking of.
They claim more innocent victims.
And as said, the US has a ridiculous amount of mass killings based on it's inhabitants.
That might be a social issue, but it just as much might be the social issue that the existance of gun craze also induces violence craze...

Terrible news from down under with this attack out of the blue, shopping malls seem to come up often for these outrages.

And then another knife attack at a church in Australia:

https://www.theguardian.com/australi...hepherd-church

Fortunately no fatalities it seems like, just some injuries. Which, given the weapon used, is actually quite fortunate. Blades can do a lot of damage very quickly if the attacker gets close enough.

World is just on a downward spiral.

I sometimes think of it as a cage that is only big enough and you keep adding rats to the cage -- bad things happen.

I'm on the security team at my church, Every Sunday morning I have my bible and my weapon set out for me. It makes me very sad to see the two items in conflict with each other together but it is the world we have now.

It is indeed sad times when you have to arm yourself to go to church, but shitheads like to target those who they view as being in a prone position apparently. Might be time for the Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch...

Man, that's just devastating. It's so rare for stuff like this to go down, especially around here. My thoughts are with the families dealing with this nightmare. It's a harsh reminder to appreciate the people we care about and the time we have with them.

We had a shooting local to me and it freaked a lot of people (myself included) out. RIP to the victims, and I'm also glad that since the shooter targeted women a female officer took him out. Brings me so much anxiety. Bastard :/

Not to take away from your overall point to the other post or generate "debate," but the number of rounds in a magazine, or bump stops, is a rather irrelevant metric in the cause of USA mass shootings/homicides. It takes an average person around a day or two to reload a mag efficiently. Also, criminals be criminalin'. They don't care about "no guns allowed" or only 'x' rounds allowed in a magazine.

There are a lot of "just don't need" items: M3 Competitions, twin turbos, 500 horsepower, and massive suburbitanks. When someone starts telling you what you can and cannot have, and how much of it you can have, you're going down a real slippery slope.

What I wish the media and politicians would stop doing is going after "big scary rifle gun bad" and instead start focusing on mental health, requirements for owning a firearm (I'm actually okay with psych evals), and other important factors. Handguns account for around 2/3 - 3/4 of homicides in the US which is rarely ever discussed (see source). Knives are used to kill more people than all other defined gun times COMBINED (excluding "firearm not listed" which likely would comprise of more handguns given the numbers).
