Which rare car to keep and which to sell?
I’ve two somewhat unique cars in my humble collection, a 2012 c63 AMG Black Series and a 2019 Jaguar Project 8. They are similar because of the characterful v-8s engines, unique body works, and exclusivities that help them maintain a small appreciation over time. They are my garage queens that I save to show to friends, or to take to C&C, or do photoshoots.
My daily driver is a tuned w204 c63, and a Jaguar F Pace SVR for rainy/snowy weather. Recently, my itch for a new car has landed on the AMG GT-R, the coupe or roadster, from between 2018 to 2021. I’ve told myself that the only way I will be getting one of these is to sell of one of the two cars mentioned form above since the replacement car will have the same purpose. I’m making my list of pros and cons to see which car to keep but seems to only come to a draw. So, I’m posting the question here and see what the auto enthusiast crowd has say. Which car should I keep? 2012 c63 AMG Black Series: Reasons to Keep: -Only about 700 made, with less the n 80 in the US -Cheap to run since it share parts with a common w204 c class coupe -Low on taxes and insurance Reasons to sell: -What I had paid for it 4 yrs. ago, put over 14k miles on it since, and what I can sell it for today will likely net me about $25-$30k. -The gear box is old school, and the car driving experience is very clunky when compared to the newer GT-R -I can get a similar driving experience in my daily driver's c63 AMG coupe (tuned, lowered, decatted) 2019 Jaguar Project 8: Reasons to Keep: -Less than 250 ever made with less than 20 in the states -Gear box and drive train are incredible -The car feels like a race car with four doors -It will likely continue to appreciate in value Reasons to Sell: -Exhaust is not that loud (fun) unless you really push the car around -Not that fun unless you drive really, really fast -High cost of taxes and insurance -I owned it for over a year, put over 5k miles on it since, and likely break even today or even gain about $5k if I sell it now I know ultimately it’s my choice, but why not make things more interesting and see what everyone think. Sell the Benz and realize the gain. The Jag is a lot cooler and more special.
The exhaust not being all that loud unless pushed is a bit surprising. I've never driven one, but I woulda guessed it sounds just like an F-Type SVR which is glorious at all RPM. I put VAP catted downpipes on mine which took it to another level...see if they can make you a set to fit the P8. |

Consider moving the Jag to an entity, write off taxes and insurance. Use it as a "marketing" vehicle.

I hate to admit it but the Merc may appreciate more but i'd still keep the Jag. It's properly special and a brand that is all but dead. Oh nd yeah sell the Merc for a drop top as I think you should have one in the garage but don't replace it with another tech laden coupe. I mean why?

Depends on why you drive a car. If you want to enjoy the way it drives, sounds like the AMG is more fun for you. If you enjoy the status it gives you, the uniqueness of it, etc., sounds like the Jag is the better car. If you consider the car as an investment, keep the one you think will appreciate more.
On the other hand, if the replacement is even more fun to drive, wouldn't keeping the AMG be redundant? If you can make it work, get the next vehicle but keep all 3 for a few weeks/months to see which ones you end up liking more and actually driving. It might turn this dilemma into an easy choice. From a practical standpoint, if you do keep the AMG, how would maintenance and reliability look like? It's 7 years older than the Jag, and although neither brand is known for being reliable, the older car would probably be less reliable. Also, for how long would you keep the car? |

I'd probably sell them both honestly. Jag is a dead brand, and the people that are "into Jags" aren't into the XE, they'd be more interested in an XJR.
The AmG Black Series brand never really looks off, and frankly, that's not even the cool one. The SL65 BS is the cool one. A lot of your reasons to keep is their rarity. Are you building a collection, or worried you couldn't buy it back? Do you really care that you couldn't buy it back? Alternatively, keep them both and build a bigger garage. |

^This. The Benz has a presence. The Jag looks like something a speed shop made and honestly, looks a bit cheap and silly in execution, IMO. Plus a modded 4 door that's not really useful as a 4 seater is dumb. I get that it's a legit performer but it doesn't have purposeful and real DTM look of the Benz.

I'd keep both before trading for an AMG GT (even the R). I think they are both more special, and awesome.

i'd sell the Jag
It seemed like it was just a blip on the radar when it came out and people talked about it... and now nobody cares outside of some jag collectors. i could almost guarantee if you listed both for sale right now, you'd get way more interest in the AMG. i'd probably also sell your regular c63 daily for something else. that'll help keep your black series feeling more special.

My dad is a big Merc collector (C63 Black series, Sl65 Black series, SLS Black series, etc.) and although they are cool cars, I've just never been a big merc fan.
I always wanted a project 8 as they are a super cool car, but i also know that Jag's aren't the greatest for reliability. Why not list both and see what sells first? |

Sell the merc, keep the jag. I get more excitement out of tuned c63s than I would like by the rarity of your merc. That jag is badass and nobody has ever seen one in person. Put an exhaust on it if you want it louder. That thing is beautiful

Hmmm....when I look at the Jag, I see a flared out Ford Fusion with a wing and a silly cheese grater bumper cover Never understood the purpose of this car.

Sounds like you don't really drive either very much.
Sell em both and get something you want to drive as fun car full time.

I'm not into late model fast cars especially since I could get a 1969 Dodge Charger with a matching numbers 440 or 426 and really have something. I totaled one as a kid so I am biased
Of the two I'd sell the Jag first. |
