2001 530i Transmission Question

I just bought my son a 2001 530i M Sport a few months back and when I was driving it the other day it began to slip in 1st and 2nd gear. As the car gradually began to warm up, the slipping got worse. Is this a common concern for this model? Any information would greatly be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Automatic or manual? I'll assume it's an Auto, since the problem seems to persist as it gets warmer.

Thanks for responding @Whit45. Yes it is automatic. Once it warms up, maybe 7-10 mph is all I get it to go.

Have it serviced at a "reputable" BMW Euro shop; it May just need a filter and fluid change. See if you can find any repair history about the vehicle. How many miles are on the clock?

Transmission is probably toast. Either rebuild or source a low mileage used one. I have a 530i 2002 with 196k on it. Still runs strong. Have not serviced transmission during ownership. Not sure if it ever has been serviced.
