visiting the Columbus Zoo

I went to the Zoo yesterday afternoon. I took my camera bag full of lenses, so by the end of the day my shoulder was aching from the constant weight. I wish I had more time to spend there, but it was really hot outside without a single cloud in the sky. Nonetheless, it was a lot of fun, since the last time I went I was in elementary school. I was pretty happy with how the photos turned out as well.

Thanks Bill... it was a lot of fun. I thought I was going to be disappointed since everything looks fun and exciting when you're young/little. I didn't get to see Jack Hanna in person since he wasn't around that day, but other than that it was pretty cool.

Haha, yeah Jeff... most the animals were pretty lazy. Only the otters were hyperactive. Actually, the koalas sleep like 22 hrs/day on average!

here's a noobie question...are those photo's digitally processed or do the colors really SNAP like that straight from the camera? my d90 doesn't do that but i'm sure it's me... help!

I shot in RAW and did my post-processing in Aperture. The colors didn't snap like that until after my processing. Also, it would help to use a circular polarizer... unfortunately, I didn't have one for these shots, but I ordered a set of nice B+Ws last night.

safe to assume you can set up a macro or something similiar in aperture so that you can batch process?

Yeah, for sure. The Lift and Stamp tool makes life a lot easier. For example, I imported all my photos from my camera to Aperture (~200 pics), then removed the really crappy ones (150 pics left). Then decided on which ones I wanted to edit (~75 pics). Then I choose one with direct sunlight and edit it as I choose. Lift and Stamp those changes onto the rest of the pics in direct sunlight. Then I repeat that for pics in the shade. Finally I go one-by-one and tweak the ones I want to show others (4 pics0).

It still takes a couple hours depending on how many pics I need to tweak, but using the Lift and Stamp tool definitely saves a lot of time.
