DPF Removal time!
My turn!
My 330d is on 115k miles and the iDrive says my DPF will last to around 150k. That gives me around another 12-18 months to get it sorted but I have the funds available at the moment so I'm going to do it early. There is no way in this life or the next I'm paying £1500 for BMW to replace it, so I've been looking at the options. Surprisingly few companies offer this, the ones that I looked at were EcoTune in Scotland, More-BHP in Cheshire and BW Chiptune in London. I've commented on More-BHP in another thread, but once I realised who they were, there was no way I'd even consider taking my car there. That left EcoTune and BW Chiptune. Having spoken to both companies, I'd have been equally happy taking my car to either. Prices are essentially the same, and both seemed knowledgable and enthusiastic. Both have had excellent reviews on this forum and others. From where I am though, BW Chiptune is a 2 hour drive, EcoTune is 4-5 hours. That was my decision made Spoke to Adam to chat about what I wanted, and I'm just juggling shifts now to get a day off in the next couple of weeks to have it all done. Can't wait! Photos and results to follow...

May be a daft question, but what would be the consequences of letting the DPF fail and gutting it then (as opposed to removing prior to failure)? Except for the inconveniance off course |

OP - PMW in Chelmsford can do this as they are agents for ecotune, they did mine and, as with everything they do, the work is faultless.
However, if it were me I would not do this out of choice. I did mine because the DPF blocked at 60k miles and subsequently split before I could get it into PMW for them to clean it. While the car now drives superbly and performance is very good, the soot out of the back and general smell of the car when it is stationary, for me spoils a nice car. I am on the Essex/ Suffolk border close to Sudbury if you wanted to meet for ten minutes sometime in the next few weeks to have a look before you go ahead. PM me if you do. Ian |

To be honest, I don't know. I know once the DPF is blocked and a regen won't start, then engine power is cut and you get warning lights and fault codes. I don't want to wait for that to happen and then have to find the time, money and opportunity to get it fixed.

As I said though, replacement with a new DPF costs north of £1500 and given that this one's had a lifespan of 6 years, I'd expect the same from the next one. As I can get it removed completely and remapped for around half that, it's a no-brainer.

Just noticed you are in Stoke, not sure why but thought you were in the same sort of area as me!
Anyhow, offer still stanhds. On the cost front, PMW were going to remove my DPF, clean and reinstall with all new bolts/ joints etc for £500. Ian |

That's pretty much the same as BW Chiptune - I'm having the EGR coded out and a remap too while I'm there
I'm surprised though - I would have thought if they were EcoTune agents they'd be using the EcoTune pipe rather than gutting the original part.

Nice!
I'd probably have BW Chiptune carry out the DPF delete on mine, but they require the car for 48 hrs last time I spoke, being its used daily leaving the vehicle with them makes it difficult. Avon Tuning are my current choice, £450 all in for delete & remap completed in 4-5 hours. |

I've read up on Avon for a while now. Seems no shortage of customers doing DPFs and yet to hear bad comment. Facebook page seems to show just how many cars they get through aswell - https://www.facebook.com/AvonTuning?ref=ts&fref=ts |

I had my DPF removed a few month ago and replaced with a Ecotune pipe.
That works!!! The look and feel of the new pipe yelds very very high quality. I have had no problems beside the smell from the car. And the sounds is great. I have been told that when overtaking there is a deep roar from the exhaust that doesn't sound like a diesel. I can't hear it inside the car when driving :-) With a remap, the DPF removal gave me aprox 40Hp and 60Nm...

It was mapped before removal of the DPF. Before: 267hp/618nm after 307hp/687nm.... :-)
I'm not sure a DPF removal will give anything. And you have to remap to take the changed back pressure into to quotation.... As far as I understand....

Yup, DPF removable means change in back pressure and a tendency for boost pressure to want to increase.. therefore boost needs knocking back to compensate. |
